Principal's Message

Dear East Orient Families,

We are currently putting the finishing touches on our back-to-school plan for our school's hybrid model. I truly appreciate that our East Orient families have done their best to make the right decision for their individual family dynamics.

I wanted to wish you all a restful week off as we head into our Spring Break. When we get back from our time away (school resumes on Wednesday, March 31st), we will be on the cusp of opening our doors in the afternoons for our A and B hybrid cohorts.

Our next essential materials pickup dates will be right after our Spring Break.

All families are free to pick up their student's materials during any of the times listed below.

Tuesday, March 30th, 1pm - 6pm

Wednesday, March 31st 11:30am - 4:30pm

This pick up is for every student. All students will receive the materials needed for their time online. In addition, students returning to the building will receive their two masks, lanyard with ID badge, and a Chromebook carrying bag.

School Schedule starting April 1st

In our previous newsletter, a general school schedule was shared that did not provide times for the day. Please find below an example of what a school day will look like for both online and students returning for some building time.

One-piece to note is that the morning will consist of 3 live lessons for all students. This is where teachers will engage students with their core curriculum.

After lunch, online students will engage with online practice and application while the in-building students engage with in-person practice, application.

Each grade level will have some small variants to the schedule below, depending on their unique grade level and classroom dynamics.

COVID-19 Testing Information

Students who exhibit COVID-19 symptoms while at school will have access to a COVID-19 test.

Following are some important details to know about the COVID-19 test:

  1. The test is VOLUNTARY. Students must have a “COVID-19 Testing Consent Form” on-file before a test can be administered to a student. The form must be fully completed and signed by a parent or guardian.

  1. Testing is intended for students who are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.

    1. COVID-19 symptoms include fever of 100.4° F or higher, chills, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing and new loss of taste or loss of smell.

  1. Students are required to administer their own test by swabbing their own nose. A testing administrator will oversee the process and provide verbal instructions to the student.

    1. Testing will be conducted in the school’s Care Room or private space.

  1. Students who exhibit COVID-19 symptoms on-site and are tested (whether positive or negative result) will be sent home. Further instructions will be provided at that time.

  1. Students who develop COVID-19 symptoms while not at school may not get tested at the school. Testing is only available for students who are already on-site and are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.

Please use this information to decide what is best for your student. If you have more questions, contact the East Orient main office at 503-663-4818.

The self-testing consent form will be sent home in our essential materials bag on the 30th and 31st for all hybrid students.

2020-21 School Yearbook

Big picture
We have decided to go ahead and continue with a yearbook for the 2020-21 school year. We want to ensure that we've documented the year, the best that we can. We are asking parents to send in pictures throughout the year of our Eagles, as they participate in online learning. If you have a picture of your little eaglet that you'd like to share, please email it to milliken2@gresham.k12.or.us. We will be reminding everyone as the year goes on. Thanks for helping us ensure we have a yearbook to document this crazy year:)
