Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-teacher conferences will be held virtually this year on 10/6 from 4-8 pm and 10/8 from 3-7 pm. If you are interested in setting up a virtual conference with your students' teacher(s) please email them to set up a time during regular conference times. You can find the list of teacher emails at https://hs.pcmschools.org/apps/staff/. If you are unable to make any of those times work please let the teacher know and they will try to accommodate you with a time that works better.

Morning Congregation

As a reminder, in an effort to minimize congregation inside the high school students are asked to stay outside until the bell rings when the weather permits. During inclement weather students will be permitted to go to their 1st period class to wait for the bell at 8:00 (9:30 on Mondays). Students will not be allowed in the building until 7:40 am (9:10 on Mondays) unless there is a pre-arranged reason. Encourage your student to dress appropriately on days that they will be waiting outside as the weather turns colder!

October Students of the Month

Student of the Month Information

The Student of the Month award is a long-standing tradition at PCM. These seniors are chosen by a group of teachers at the high school who examine the students as a whole. Things that are taken into consideration are:

  • Leadership in and out of the classroom
  • Effort in the classroom
  • Embodiment of PCM school values

Students that are selected are honored at a breakfast put on the the Monroe Kiwanis each month and presented with a certificate in their honor.

If your student is interested in taking the ACT, more information can be found at actstudent.org. This includes test dates, registration and more. Also, the district will be providing ACT prep during WIN time. Students should be listening to announcements for more information regarding ACT test prep in the near future.

Counseling Corner

Hello everyone! First, I wanted to thank you for welcoming me into the district. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the students and families here, and I look forward to the rest of the year together. The Counseling Corner is where I will update you all on important events or information that you need to know. Here is what is coming up this month:

Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)

This year instead of offering the PSAT, we are going to be offering the ASVAB. It is an aptitude test that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success. It is a great opportunity to help prepare students to take the ACT. Furthermore, this free test fulfills the testing requirements for admission into the military. That being said, there is no obligation to join the military. Students will get scores back, and they have the option to send them to the military. I will be sending out permission forms that you can sign if you want these scores released. We are requiring all juniors to take this exam, but it is also open to sophomores and seniors who may be interested in taking it as well. A couple weeks after students get their scores back, we will be bringing in someone to do a career workshop with the students. If you have any further questions, please email me at cmichael@pcmschools.org.

Do you need help filling out the FAFSA for your senior? You can begin filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid on October 1st. On October 8, we are hosting a FAFSA Night. This was going to be during conferences, but will now be held virtually. We have a member from the Iowa College Access Network (ICAN) who will be available to assist families from 2-7pm. 6 senior families will be able to sign up for an hour-long zoom meeting. If a family needs to fill out two applications, please sign up for two time slots (preferably back to back). You will get an email from Jessica Schultz on the morning of Oct. 8 with the link to your meeting. If you are interested in this, please sign up for a meeting here. If the time slots fill up for Oct. 8, you can set up a virtual meeting with someone from ICAN at a later date here. Please make sure you have everything you need before your appointment time. It would be beneficial to have the student and parent FSA ID (username and password) created ahead of time. These two sheets explain what you need to have prepared before the meeting: FAFSA Documents & FSA ID.

Let me know if you need anything. Have a great October!

Mr. Michael

Welcome Officer Choat

PCM would like to welcome officer Adam Choat to the district. Officer Choat will be the Student Resource Officer present in all of our buildings during the day. If you see him in the buildings or at events please welcome him to PCM!

HOIAC Conference Mitigation Rules

As a reminder for all patrons attending conference sporting events at PCM, The Heart of Iowa has approved a mandate requiring masks to be worn by all attendees when they enter the building and keep them on until they enter the gymnasium. Patrons are also required to wear a mask when they are in common areas (such as our concession stand line, commons, and restrooms). In addition, all children grade 8 and under must be supervised by an adult at all times. These are rules that have been put into place by the HOIAC conference and we kindly ask all PCM fans to follow them.
