BTES Happenings!

February will be an awesome month at BTES! We have a lot of wonderful things planned for the students and we look forward to making our school a powerful and positive place! Our goal this month will be to make others feel good about themselves. Paying it forward each week will help promote kindness throughout the school.

Last Month's Highlights!

January was a fun filled month! With the unpredictable weather, we were lucky to get a couple full weeks of school in. The students showed great enthusiasm returning from the break!

Mr. Prima started his Rubix Cube Club and had almost 30 students stay to learn the art of Rubix! Each session ended with a timed race for the students who can complete the cube to try and beat their best time!

Basketball started up for after school sports with Mr. Waldron and Mr. Prima. We have had a great variety of students stay and play this month!

Officer Scott got started with his DARE Program at BTES. The students are loving their time with him so far and are looking forward to an awesome year ahead!

We celebrated another awesome Top Dog Lunch with some great Pizza and soft drinks! The students worked hard and we are proud of their positive efforts!

The Nurse's Nook!

Just a friendly reminder that all medications, prescription and over the counter, require a doctor's note to be administered by the school nurse. All medications must be dropped off by a Parent or Guardian to the school nurse. The Medication Consent Form can be found on the District Website under the Parents Tab, Health Services, and under Health Forms. Page one of the medication consent form must be completed by the student's Physician.

Please call the nurse with any further questions at 732-269-2909, ext. 2005.

PTA Monthly!

Meeting Date: Monday February 12 at 6pm in the auditorium

We will be honoring our Top Dog winners directly following this meeting! Come out and support our students!

BTES PTA works very hard to make sure our students have a wonderful experience in 5th and 6th grade. Please help support in any way that you can!

This month the PTA will be continuing their focus on soliciting donations for Fun Fest. Fun Fest is BTES' biggest PTA fundraiser where most of the money for our school's events is raised. We will be accepting prize donations for the students, gift cards, toys, and sports equipment! Please help our PTA out for this amazing event!

Orders for new spirit wear will be available this month. We will have our new logo and some fun new colors!

There will also be booster forms for the yearbook going out this month.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to us at or ask us at the meeting!

Applebee's Teacher of the Year

Applebee's is sponsoring a Teacher of the Year Contest and you can vote for your favorite teacher to win! All you need to do is go into your local Applebee's and get a nomination form. Students will be asked to write a half page essay explaining why they think this teacher deserves this honor. All entries also receive a free ice cream certificate to Applebee's.

Thank you and have fun!

Kakos Korner

This month, Mrs. Kakos is running a program called Kindness Cash. Throughout the month of February, the students, staff, families, and visitors to the building will have a chance to anonymously write out something nice about somebody else in the building. Mrs. Kakos will then sort these compliments and deliver them to the homerooms where they will be hung in the hallway for all to see.

This is an excellent opportunity for BTES to spread positivity and make someone smile. We can't wait to get started!

Artists of the Month

We would like to take the time to recognize our two Artists of the Month. Congratulations on your hard work, creativity, and talent in the art field. These students were chosen to have their art work hung in the hallway for the month for the school to see. Awesome job and keep up the great work!

Student Council Updates

Coming in February, the BTES Student Council will partner with Philly Pretzel Factory to fundraise at BTES. The students and staff will get a chance to purchase one of the very popular pretzels, with a portion of the proceeds going to BTES Student Council.

As an executive board, the students decided in the beginning of the year that they were going to be donating a part of their earnings to a local charity. This year they selected Emiliana's Hope Foundation. We are so excited to partner with them and help support a wonderful local charity.

Mary Poppins

Our school play is progressing very well! The students and staff are very excited about performing. We look forward to seeing the finished product!

After School Sports

After School Sports will be continuing with Basketball! If your child is interested in staying after with Mr. Prima and Mr. Waldron, please fill out the permission slip sent home by your child's teacher asap. Remember, the students will stay for an hour after school and must have transportation home. So far we have had some great competition and learning experiences. We look forward to more to come!

Congressman MacArthur's Reading Challenge

Congressman Tom MacArthur is sponsoring a reading challenge for all students in the Third Congressional District. Students are asked to read 3 books and submit the form below by March 16, 2018 in order to receive a Congressional Certificate. This is a wonderful way to recognize your child's reading accomplishments! Thank you and Happy Reading!!

Reminder: Cell Phone Procedures

At BTES we have decided to create a user friendly cell phone rule. We have shared this with the students on multiple occasions and want to make sure that we are all on the same page. When students bring their phones to school, they should be set off and kept in their bookbag during the school day. When riding the bus, the students may use their phones for music ONLY! There should be no games, calling, texting, photographing, or video taping on the bus. While using their phones for music they MUST ALSO have an earbud in one ear, leaving the other ear open for messages or announcements.

If this rule is not followed, we will be forced to eliminate the use of all phones while on school property.

Thank you for your continued support.
