Waipipi School 2022

Term 3: Monday 12th September

Our vision: Waipipi Students are successful learners, who communicate

confidently, and interact positively with others.

Today's newsletter is a large one.

A huge thank you to Janene Macfarlane. (Former Board of Trustees member)

The Waipipi Board of Trustees met last week and made the decision to co-opt James Lochead-Macmillan on to the board for six months to aid the new board's transition. James has served nine years on our board of trustees and has a lot of experience in governance.

Janene Macfarlane made a decision not to stand at the recent board elections as her children have now all moved on to college. We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to Janene for her six years of service on the board, and around the school plus PTA. Janene was the chairperson in late 2020- to 2021. Janene was wonderful to work with and was a keen supporter of our school.

Current Board of Trustees Roles

Hamish Kirkness - Presiding Member

David Shoemark- Health and Safety

James Lochead Macmillan- Health and Safety

Ashleigh Henwood- Treasurer

Mark Burns- Property

Colin Cochrane- Staff Representative

Michelle Brown- Principal

Sports Days- information and photos

There will be days when teachers are unable to accompany groups to sports days. We really appreciate parents stepping forward and helping us on these occasions.

Most of the time, we do not receive any information from the event of team placings or individual placings. (As was the case with the Franklin Zone Cross-country event last week.) We rely on parents and students to give us information.

Parents and whanau- If you do attend a sports day, it would be great to receive an email outlining some highlights of the days events, the students who stood out and why, and some photos for the newsletter.

Thank you for your help with this.

Trolley Derby - Close off date for entries is this Friday 16th September

If you are planning on having your child compete in the Trolley Derby next Thursday 22nd September, please get your entry form (which includes driver consent and risk disclosure) in by this Friday 16th September.

Our community and extended community is invited to come along and watch the Trolley Derby. The date was Thursday 22nd September. If that date is becomes a public holiday for Queen Elizabeth ll, we will run the derby on Friday 23rd September.

There will be no access to the school's car-park after 8:30am.

All vehicles must be out of the car-park by 8:30am

If you are staying to watch the Trolley Derby, either find a safe place to park on the road side, or depending on how wet the school field is, there will be car parking on the field.

However you need to meet the following conditions:

1. There will be no entry to field parking after 8:30am.

2. There will be no exit of field parking until the final competitor has competed in the Speed Competition.

All trolleys must be lined up in the car-park by 8:45am for the first event Best Overall Design.

There are four competitions on the day:

Best Design Overall

Most Creative Design

Longest Distance Competition

Speed Competition

Year 6-8 Senior Camp to Lakewood Lodge

The senior students came back very happy (and tired) from camp. They triumphed in the wet weather conditions and had a great time. Apparently the zip lining activity was extremely popular with most of the children. Archery was a close second with many of our students being a good shot.

I'd like to thank Ms Koopmans and Miss Jennings for all their hard work before, during and after camp. There is a huge workload, and level of responsibility, involved in organising and running a school camp!

Thank you to all the parents who came along and gave 100% to the camp: helping out where needed and being absolutely awesome parent helpers.- even in the pouring rain.

Thanks also to the parents who offered to help on camp, but missed out. It's great to know we have parents who are willing to lend a hand.

Junior Trip

On Thursday last week,, the Junior School ( Rooms 1, 3 and 9 ), went to Pukekohe to participate in Ten Pin Bowling. The trip was part of this term's Technology unit, entitled The Trolley Derby and Things Rolling.it was a most enjoyable day for all including children, teachers and accompanying parents. The children participated in the bowling with much enthusiasm. On the way back to school they finished off a great day with a picnic in the park.
