MAP Testing 2019
MAP testing is underway and we have one week completed and one more to go. We are also busy trying to make up testing with students who have been absent. Please make every effort to have your student here for testing. It is extremely important that students are well rested and here for testing. They will need their chrome books charged and earbuds.
Testing will take place each morning here at FMS for all grade levels.
We will have make up dates for testing but if students haven't gotten all testing made up prior to their grade level trip, they will not be able to attend their end of year field trip.
Testing days are as follows for all grade levels:
April 16th and 17th
Testing for 8th grade only:
April 18th
Needing to see the school counselor?
Students needing to access the counselor's office can submit a form from their chrome books by clicking on the apps button. This form comes only to the counselor's. If you have any questions or need help finding the form refer to the email that was sent from Mrs. Horstmeier. You can also ask your teacher for help.If you can't locate the form you can also shoot your school counselor an email. Obviously if there is an emergency, students will be sent to the Counselors Office immediately. This is just a great way to help students stay in the classroom for instruction time.
Here are a few ways you can reach out to us in the FMS Counseling Office:
Mrs. Horstmeier works with students with a last name starting with an A-J and can be reached at shorstmeier@fulton58.org and Mrs. Crawford works with students with a last name starting with a K-Z and can be reached at mcrawford@fulton58.org
Ms. Jo is the Counseling Office secretary and can be reached at jwilliamson@fulton58.org.
Counseling Office phone number is 573-590-8208

News From the Art Room
Greeting from FMS Art!
This week we have been resetting and getting projects wrapped up or underway.
6th Grade is working on several objectives this week.
The First Objective is ELO 3 Students will select and use elements and principles of art.
Students will be learning about Value and Texture and we will be exploring other design elements as well in relation to these elements.
The Second Objective that we will roll right into is ELO 5: Students will explain the connections between visual art, ELA, Math, Science, or Social Studies.
We will explore optical illusions, and why line can trick our brains, we will create optical-like patterns and use our value study to enhance.
7th Grade will begin objective ELO 4: Students will explain the connection between art and the world around them.
Students will pick a positive or influential person from history and create a folk art portrait with a quote by that person. They will then paint these portraits using acrylic paint using opaque and mixed techniques.
8th Grade will be starting a new objective this week ELO1: Students will select and apply media techniques and processes.
We will be doing a variety of mini projects with this objective we will be creating as well as a bookmaking project that will finish out the year.
We will also be revisiting past objectives and applying different applications and processes.
Art Club is canceled this week due to conflicting with conferences. Thanks for understanding!
The FMS Thrive Hive
The Fulton Middle School Thrive Hive opened for business on Monday, August 21st. The store is open 7:25 to 7:45 each morning. If students aren't able to shop then they can email Mrs. Horstmeier @ shortmeier@fulton58.org or Mrs. Yates @ hyates@fulton58.org for an appointment to shop.
The Thrive Hive is designed to allow students to use their Hornet Bucks--earned through the Positive Behavior Support Program--to purchase items from the store. The Thrive Hive was created to help the needs of the FMS Student Community.
Items currently needed for the store are:
Any age appropriate toys, DVD's for the holidays.
As we gear up for winter: Hats, gloves, scarves, and coats.
Snack items: Nutella snack packs, Slim jims and pop tarts.
Other needs are ear buds and water bottles.
We will be gearing up for the holiday season so baskets to make gift packages for students to purchase would be great.
All other items are appreciated as well.
If you would like to donate, please call Fulton Middle School at 573-590-8200.

MAP Testing has begun and the Library will not be open during MAP Testing. It will be used for students who will be testing. If you need a new book, please email me and I'll let you know when I have time for you to swap it out. The Library should open up again around Thursday, April 25th. I'll keep you posted!
The Library will be closed for the year on Wednesday, May 8th. I need all of your Library books returned by that date. If you can't find your book, check your ELA classroom Library, check you locker, and look around your house.
You can read books online if I don't have it in my Library. Check out this awesome app for your phone, tablet, and chromebook called Hoopla! You can check out books, music, and movies for FREE just by having a Library Card with Daniel Boone Regional Library.
I NEED YOU FOR THE MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS!
We are revamping the Morning Announcements. You don't always have to record it in the Library. There are a million ways you can do a book talk, and best of all you can always use your chromebooks to record yourself or use your phone! You don't even have to show your face if you don't want to. You can just record your voice.
Other ideas for books talks other than talking about a book:
Create a Powtoon.
Draw a picture and talk about it.
Create a CoSpace for a book character.
Record a video with a fun filter and email it to me.
Read a poem.
Talk about your favorite character, or your least favorite character.
Show us your favorite place your read (maybe you like to read with your pet on your lap).
AND.....We don't have to show book talks all the time. You can share interesting facts about your favorite animal, favorite athlete, maybe you play an instrument, maybe you are an awesome cook, do you volunteer for something, etc..
The possibilities are endless!
Email me with what you got.
Just remember to keep you video less than 2 minutes long, the shorter the better!
See what's happening in the Library on Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter. You might even see yourself on there!
See you in the Library!
