Slater Nation News - High School
The Official FHUMHS Newsletter - February 9, 2024
Note from the Principal
Happy Friday Slater Nation!
We are very excited to kick off our Winter Carnival celebrations with tomorrow's Winter Carnival Dance! We have a great week planned to bring the full Slater Spirit out in all of our students. Please encourage your child(ren) to participate!
I have included our 8th grade families in this week's newsletter. Today, the high school counseling team met with the 8th grade students to discuss scheduling for next school year. Below, you will find information to help students through the course request process. We have asked students to bring the course requests home to discuss classes with their families. We hope to finalize student requests by the end of net week.
Please check out our LIBRARY NEWSLETTER for this month. Mrs. Crumb has put together some amazing resources!
We are also excited to celebrate our Semester One Principal's List students, and Academic Students of the Semester, on Thursday, February 15th. We are very proud of the hard work our students have been putting into their education!
Have a great weekend!

7 Solutions to Common FAFSA® Issues
The FAFSA® overhaul has certainly been a bumpy ride, but we hope you’re hanging in there. Here are seven solutions you can suggest to families if they run into issues filing their forms:
1) Use a different browser. Some users have had success with switching internet browsers, clearing their browser history, or disabling browser extensions or plugins.
2) Come back later. Try accessing the FAFSA® site late at night or early in the morning when it’s not as busy.
3) Contact the FSA Office. If you’re still having trouble, ask the Federal Student Aid (FSA) Office for help. You can reach them at customerservice@studentaid.gov or 800-4-FED-AID.
4) Try the live chat. The FSA Office has also launched a new chat feature called Ask Aidan. The chat is designed to help you get basic questions answered more quickly than via call or email.
5) Be patient. The FSA Office won’t release FAFSA information to schools until the end of January 2024. So, you have all month to work on your form, and there’s no advantage to submitting it earlier than that.
6) Do other prep work in advance. If you’re having trouble filling out the FAFSA right now, use your time to prepare instead. Check out this FAFSA® Prep assignment.
7) Submit the form no matter what. Every year, the FAFSA® helps millions of students gain access to Pell Grants, subsidized federal loans, and other lucrative sources of federal aid. If you skip the form, you could be leaving tens of thousands of dollars on the table. Stick with it and keep checking back!
