Week 1, T3 2022
29/7/22 - He Pānui Wiki Tahi, Whānga Tuatoru
Tēnā koutou i tēnei ahiahi (good afternoon/evening everyone).
Welcome back for the start of Term 3. Our new students are settling in well - thanks to buddies for doing a great job of supporting them during their first week of school. Our 3 new rabbits - Tulip; Rose & Charcoal have also made it happily through their first week, let's hope it continues.
Term 3 is traditionally our 'arts-creative' term. We have 2 teams competing in the Jump Jam competition next Thursday (5pm @ Wairarapa College), groups performing at Dance Splash, the Kapa Haka Festival and of course the ultimate highlight - 'Gladdy's Got Talent' in Week 9. Dance Splash & Kapa Haka groups will be finalised in the next few weeks and Mr Brown has been busy organising auditions for Gladdy's Got Talent.
Our Year 5&6 students from Ruamahanga Syndicate are heading off on their winter camp this coming Tuesday. All information and details have gone out via SeeSaw and a paper reminder note is coming home today - please look out for it in your child's school bag. The camp is taking place at the Blue Mountain Adventure Centre and includes a day up Mt Ruapehu - let's hope the weather is kind and that there is enough snow. We look forward to hearing all about the trip and wish you a fun, exciting time away.
Reminder - 3-Way Conferences
The booking link for our upcoming 3 Way Conferences can be found below - the 'Event Code' is: 2nybj. Tuesday 9th August; Wednesday 10th August; Thursday 11th August. These conferences are a perfect opportunity to discuss student progress and achievement and any other matters. We like having students at the interviews so that everyone in the learning partnership can be present, however if you would prefer for your child not to come please contact their team leader to let them know.
Event Code: 2nybj
Did You Know....
Ruamahanga means - 'Trapping Hole'. This from Ra Smith at Hurunui-o-Rangi: The context for Ruamahanga is a river, a river that has rivers and streams converging with it. After the waterways converge there is often a deeper pool where the river has scoured the river bed because the flow of two rivers is quite forceful. The cooler water in the deeper pool attracts many eels and fish. This is why I think the Ruamahanga means trapping hole.
Ask your tamariki if they can remember what Kourarau means. Also ask them if they can show you the sign language for our school vision.

Out of zone places for 2023 will be advertised in Week 4 of this term. Please let us know if your child will either be starting as a NE or not be returning to Gladstone School next year as we are currently working out the number of out of zone places we can offer and are organising staffing for 2023. Pet Day is on Friday the 21st of October (the first Friday of term 4).
Have a great weekend everyone.

Scarecrow Fair Monster Auction - Coordinator Needed Urgently
We are desperate for someone to put their hand up to oversee and co-ordinate the Monster Auction. Other people will be sourcing the prizes so the role is co-ordinating the prize packages and liaising with the auctioneer. Please contact Belinda if you think you could help us out this year. Ang Falloon is happy to act as a support person.
