Native Plant Kits Available for Purchase
Again this year, the Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation District and Parks and Recreation Department are partnering for Mission Monarch—a series of educational programs and events highlighting the decline of the Monarch butterfly and importance of pollinators. Pollinators like butterflies, bees, and birds require pollen and nectar sources to thrive but the native plants they depend on have been in decline. Native plants are those that have grown and thrived in this area since before settlers made this area home. This spring take the guesswork out of your landscaping and go native by purchasing one of the Soil and Water Conservation District’s native plant kits.
Each native plant kit contains 50 native plants for $120 and takes the guesswork out of plant selection by providing a set of plants that will be perfect for your yard. There is a kit for any area of your landscape including pollinator garden, rain garden (for wetter areas), prairie garden, and shade garden. Each kit contains 10 different perennial species of native plants and can fill a space anywhere from 50 to 150 square feet.
Plant kit orders can be placed online at www.hamiltonswcd.org or by visiting the SWCD office at 1717 Pleasant Street in Noblesville. Orders and payment are due by April 29th. The plant kits will be available for pick up at the SWCD office in mid-May. All proceeds support conservation projects and education in Hamilton County.

2017 Indiana Forage Council Meeting Scheduled in Fishers
You are invited to attend educational presentations during the Indiana Forage Councils annual meeting, which will be held March 20 at the Hamilton County Community Building, 9090 East 131st St., Fishers. The annual meeting for members and guests starts at 4:30 p.m. and is followed by dinner at 6 p.m. The seminar, featuring Stratton and Wilson, begins at 7 p.m.
Participation in the annual meeting is not required for participation in the dinner and seminar. The cost of the dinner is $15. Attendees are requested to RSVP by March 13 to Jason Tower or 812-678-4427.
Soil Health Economics: A Farmer's Perspective - Conservation Webinar
This webinar is featuring Hamilton County's own Rodney Rulon, Rulon Enterprises. He will present the economic benefits of soil health based on implementing a soil health management system that includes continuous no-till, cover crops, nutrient management, and subsurface drainage.
Rodney Rulon farms 5,800 acres of corn and soybeans in Arcadia, IN. A long time no-tiller (1989), he has added cover crops, nutrient and pest management, and subsurface drainage to complete his soil health management system.

Indiana Small Farm Conference - Danville, IN - March 2-4th
It's not too late, official registration has closed but we do accept walk-in registrations in the morning each day at the Indiana Small Farm Conference. We will have a limited number of walk-ins we can accept, however space is not guaranteed. Cost for walk-in would be 1-day $90, 2-day $162 / person. Doors open for registration each morning at 8 a.m.
