Celebrating a Great School Year
It is with pride and great enthusiasm that I congratulate our students and staff on the successful completion of the school year. We all know that this year was filled with incredible challenges and impressive accomplishments. The greatest accomplishment for our district was our collective resolve to keep our focus centered on supporting students and their families. For this, I thank every teacher, secretary, custodian, counselor, principal, instructional assistant, bus driver, technology specialist, and every other staff member. I would also like to thank every parent and caregiver for your commitment to your children and your confidence in Vista Unified as a partner in education.
On behalf of the School Board of Trustees and the entire school district, I would like to congratulate every student of the Graduating Class of 2022. The diploma you will receive is a symbol of your hard work, perseverance, and educational accomplishments. We are proud of you as a scholar and are eager to see you succeed in your career and life.
To celebrate the accomplishments of our students and staff, we have created a brief video montage of the 2021-22 school year. Please have a restful and safe summer break!
Summer Programs Overview
District Elementary Summer School “Splash into Summer” The Wonders of Water!
The elementary summer school program is almost full, with over 400 students registered. Our six district host sites are Breeze Hill, Vista Academy, Bobier, Mission Meadows, Empresa and Monte Vista. The summer session will run from June 13th through July 1st. Community partnerships have been developed with the Vista Irrigation District who will provide an in-person assembly for students on water conservation. The San Diego County Office of Education “Splash Lab” will also provide students with a hands-on learning assembly focusing on water pollution and its effect on the environment. San Diego County Water Authority is also scheduled to present assemblies for students to learn about water. Additionally, Kids College will be providing lessons focused on the Science of Water, Art of Water, Waterwise, and Recycling. Students will also be brushing up on their reading, writing and math skills during the summer session. For specific information about programs offered at your school, please contact your school’s administrator. We look forward to a great summer of learning for our students.
Secondary Summer School Opportunities
We have a variety of opportunities for our middle and high school students during the summer months in order to create a robust, comprehensive, and multi-tiered system of support. These opportunities fall into three main categories - remediation, bridge, and enrichment. For specific information about programs offered at your school, please contact your school’s counselor or administrator. If your student is interested in participating in any of the programs, enroll them soon as spots are filling up.
Remediation - We have a comprehensive program for high school students to remediate failing grades in order to be on track for graduation and to meet A-G requirements.
Graduating seniors can attend up to two three-week sessions in order to complete their senior year and receive a diploma during the summer. This is a program that we offer every year for all of our seniors, but we have increased this due to the pandemic, with an additional three week session, allowing seniors to make up even more credits in order to graduate.
Current 9th, 10th, and 11th graders also have the opportunity to remediate failing grades through a district-wide summer school program. Each of our high schools have two three-week semesters of courses in the summer months, allowing students to remediate credits before the next school year.
Bridge - Middle and high schools have bridge options for invited students to provide targeted learning opportunities that will prepare students academically for the upcoming school year. Districtwide, bridge opportunities include programs for incoming 6th and 9th graders, English Language Learners, special education students, and at-risk students. Eligible students will be invited by each school site to participate.
- Enrichment - Middle and high schools also have enrichment opportunities in a variety of disciplines. Each site has published their dates, times; please contact your school site if your student is interested in participating. District programs include AVID, sports and athletics, visual and performing arts, lab sciences, career pathways, computer science, STEM, and design labs.

New School Year Bell Schedules 2022-2023
At the May board meeting, the school board of trustees voted to change the start times for middle school to 9:00 a.m. and high school to 8:30 a.m. for the 2022-23 school year. The board also voted to set the start time for elementary schools at 8:00 a.m. The reason for this change is in response to the passage of Senate Bill No. 328 that mandates all middle schools to have a start time no earlier than 8:00 a.m. and high schools to have a start time no earlier than 8:30 a.m. beginning with the 2022-23 school year.
Please click here for a listing of all elementary, middle, and high schools start and end times for the next school year. These will also be published on the district website and on individual school site websites.
