Twin Peaks Middle School
Weekly RAM Newsletter
From the desk of Principal Mills - Sunday, September 18th, 2022
Happy Sunday Ram Families!
I hope this week's newsletter finds you all well and enjoying the weekend. We had an amazing week of learning and celebrating at Twin Peaks, starting off with our Step-It Up Assembly on Tuesday! This is our annual ASB fundraiser kickoff event and a chance for students to win some prizes for their efforts. Our ASB uses these funds to sponsor their robust student activities program throughout the year, so this is a fundraiser that truly benefits all students at TPMS! Thank you to all of our students and families who participated!
This past week in classrooms, I saw our 6th graders learn how to design webpages in HTML in Gateways to Technology, our 7th graders learn about the legacy of the Roman empire in Social Studies, and our 8th graders learn about the metric system to get a sense of the scale of the universe. It was an incredible week of learning for our students at Twin Peaks!
We capped off the week on Friday with our 6th Graders getting to celebrate at the WEB Carnival - students had an awesome time playing the carnival games and hanging out with their friends, our WEB leaders, and even the PHS Titan Ambassadors. Thank you to all of our WEB leaders and advisors, Mrs. Fenwick and Mrs. McKibbin, for all of your hard work in making this event happen! Check out a few pictures from the WEB carnival below.
Please remember that Monday, September 19th, is a non-student day and the school will be closed for professional learning for our staff. Most of our staff will be attending the PUSD Inclusion Summit at Poway HS where we will attend breakout sessions focused on student inclusion and learn from our keynote speaker - Canadian educator, author, and special education expert Shelley Moore. Because of the all-day trainings occurring tomorrow, our school offices will not be open until Tuesday morning at 7:30am.
Each year, thousands of schools and youth organizations nationwide participate in Start With Hello Week, a national call-to-action week dedicated to making new social connections and creating a sense of belonging among youth. This next week, September 19th-23rd, is Start With Hello Week and we will several events at school to provide opportunities for students to connect and to feel a sense of belonging here at Twin Peaks. There are spirit dress up days Tuesday-Friday, so please check the ASB Canvas Page by CLICKING HERE to find out what's going on for Start With Hello Week!
This Thursday, September 22nd , PUSD will be hosting their first Community Safety Summit of the year. Please join PUSD Assistant Superintendent of Student Services Greg Mizel and a panel of community safety experts in the PUSD Community Room starting at 6:30pm. Please see the flyer below for a list of the safety panel members and more information about the event.
If you haven't already, get your tickets NOW for the TPMS Foundation's Fall Social this Friday, September 23rd at Second Chance Brewery from 6-9pm. Please plan on coming out to meet other TPMS parents, spend time with some of our amazing staff, and have some fun while raising money to support our students and campus. To purchase your pre-sale tickets before September 22nd, please click on the Foundation Fall Social event flyer below - I look forward to seeing you all at Second Chance on Friday!
Finally this week, thank you to all of our parents who have helped Twin Peaks this week through completing the Step-It Up Golden Ticket and returning it with your student to school, and to our parents who dropped off sports equipment for our lunchtime playground supply. Your support of our ASB program through the Step-It Up fundraiser provides the lion's share of our ASB's budget for the year, including movie nights, dances, lunchtime events and awards and recognitions for students. The sports equipment that was donated will provide TPMS students an opportunity to play basketball, volleyball and wall ball during lunch. Thank you parents for your continued support of TPMS!
