Illinois Music Education Association (IMEA) Due Date - THIS WEEK!
It is that time of year for a fantastic opportunity: the Illinois Music Education Association (IMEA) Honor Band and Jazz Band groups!
The IMEA band and jazz bands are AUDITIONED based groups. If your student want to audition, they need to prepare specific music that I will happily e-mail along to you. If the students are chosen for either group, they will spend a full day practicing and culminate with a full ensemble concert.
Be forewarned that these auditions are competitive - these are extremely high performing groups of middle schoolers. While the groups are selective, the audition process is a terrific challenge, so if your student plans to do this in the future, it's a great time to try!
What is so cool about this group?
You get to meet other band and jazz band students from all of the other middle schools throughout the Chicagoland! You also get to be directed by a famous guest conductor. This year, directors include Don Owens from Northwestern (concert band), Don Shupe, retired from Libertyville HS (jazz), and our own Mike Collins-Dowden from Pleasant Ridge (jazz)!!!
How does the audition process work?
Band auditions take place over a Saturday for roughly 10-15 minutes . It is extremely important that your student comes to the audition ready to go. Students have SPECIFIC MUSIC/SCALES that need to be performed for the judges.
If your student wants to audition, they must return the permission slip (click HERE) and $8 fee to me by September 9th.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Please remember, if you are planning on auditioning for either group, please see and/or e-mail me for music!!!
Jazz Band Auditions are THIS WEEK and THIS WEEK ONLY!
Once registered for an audition, please make sure you read carefully through the jazz audition requirements. You can find the audition requirements HERE.
