Due to COVID-19 health safety
- families must complete the COVID-19 symptom screening Web App at home every morning at home before the student leaves for school. After all the questions have been answered and submitted, the Web App will indicate if the student is able to come to school or should remain at home.
- Students will enter the school upon their arrival; students are not to wait in the playground before school.
- Barrington 220 requires universal masking for all staff and students, regardless of vaccination status. Masks are optional when students and staff are outdoors.
traffic flow patterns have been designated on the floors and walls of the school

What learning will look like when your child is in quarantine...
This letter from Barrington220 is to inform you about what learning will look like when your child is in quarantine during the 2021-22 school year.
In short, learning during quarantine will look different than last year in the way that students will not be accessing their instruction only through Zooming into the classroom. Instead, learning during quarantine will be a combination of asynchronous and synchronous learning.

Statewide School Mask Mandate
I am excited to welcome back our students and staff for the start of the 2021-22 school year! I know the past year and a half has been challenging for everyone and we are so happy to return to some sense of normalcy by having our students back for full in-person learning. Keeping our students in school five days a week for the entire school day is a top priority, which is why following our mitigation efforts will be critical.
As you are aware, one of those key mitigation efforts is a statewide school mask mandate, which means all visitors, students and staff will need to wear masks while inside of our school building for all events, regardless of vaccination status.
I know there are many different opinions about masks and whether or not they should be worn in school. While these conversations are appropriate at the state and district level, inside our school building, our main focus is on educating our students. Therefore, I respectfully ask that you please follow our school wide expectations when you visit our building. With your support and cooperation, I look forward to kicking off a great school year!

Monthly Message from our Tiger Math Coach: Mr. McGann
Parents often ask, “How can we support our children in math?” Believe it or not, having conversations with your child about math concepts can have a lasting impact on your child’s learning. You can practice counting with them, or point out any numbers in the real world and ask your child/ren to read those numbers. These are skills that students are learning and practicing at the beginning of the school year. Here are some ideas for conversations you can have with students in the following grade levels:
Kindergarten & 1st Grade: Practice counting forward and backward by ones up to 20 (go higher when your child is ready), and practice recognizing and naming numbers to 10.
2nd & 3rd Grade: Counting forward and backward across hundreds like ...298, 299, 300, 301… Reading numbers up to 1,000 in 2nd grade, and up to 10,000 in 3rd grade.
4th & 5th Grade: Skip counting by 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s, 6’s, 7’s, 8’s, and 9’s which practices knowing the multiples for multiplication. Reading numbers up to one-million in 4th grade, and ten-million in 5th grade.
These may seem like little things, but they can make a big difference! Thank you for your support at home, Parents!
Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
I am ecstatic to be the Assistant Principal of our great school! At Sunny Hill, we strive to utilize the most effective and engaging ways to support the social and emotional needs of all our Tigers. These supports can be achieved by strengthening the connection between home and school. The mutual effort and collaboration between home and school will be the key to the success of our Tigers at Sunny Hill.
To help support our Tigers and their families, we have developed a Positive Actions Within Sunny Hill (PAWS) program matrix. This matrix will help students, teachers, staff, and families identify and understand the “Three B’s” of our school expectations (Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible). These expectations are here to help students while they are doing their work at school or home.
I am here to help you and your students become successful in school. We are all looking forward to the best school year 2021-2022! Please do not hesitate to contact me at (847) 426-4232 or via email at edelamora@barrington220.org.
