5th Grade ***VERY IMPORTANT***
The annual student survey window is open. Please plan to have all students complete this survey before April 1. If you need help with make-ups, please let me know. This is a different survey than the one we gave a few weeks ago.
To access the survey, click here!
The survey can be taken between the hours of 7-5. Once you click "start survey" I understand you will need the school BEDS code. Ebinport is 4603023
Let me know if you have any questions. I can check through the state department website to see how many students have take this survey. Only fifth graders are required to take this!

Social Emotional Library: From Mrs. Vaughan
I've placed the books (all stamped with our names) in the lounge/workroom on the shelf behind the copier. There is a list of available titles along with a sign out sheet. Would you mind sending out an email to everyone telling them where they are?

Inappropriate Videos or Picture
The guidelines below were sent to administrators regarding inappropriate videos and pictures. I wanted you to be aware of these guidelines.
Unfortunately, we have seen an increase in the number of inappropriate videos and pictures that are students are taking and then spreading through various technology means. Below is a process to follow when you are in receipt of or have knowledge of an inappropriate even pornographic video or picture involving a student.
1. South Carolina Law makes it a felony for anyone other than law enforcement to possess any material that contains a visual representation of a minor engaging in sexual activity or appearing in a state of sexually explicit nudity. Additionally, it is also a felony to disseminate obscenity. Please see the attached laws in reference to possession and dissemination.
2. What to do if you receive inappropriate videos or pictures?
a. Do not forward the video or picture to anyone else.
b. Do not show the video or picture to anyone other than law enforcement.
c. Call law enforcement immediately.
3. What will law enforcement do?
a. Law enforcement will write a police report and may make arrests depending on the situation.
b. Your school device or personal device may be confiscated for evidence or it may be erased.
c. You will need to work with Technology on how to get a replacement device if necessary.
4. How do I know if it is inappropriate?
a. It is inappropriate if there is any nudity.
b. It is inappropriate if it is sexual in nature
c. If you have doubts contact law enforcement so they can make a determination.
5. What if we need to discipline the student?
a. Any school rule violations should be processed.
b. Any evidence that may be needed for administrative hearings can be handled by your SRO.
c. DO NOT KEEP A COPY OF ANY PICTURES OR VIDEO.
Voting: Teacher of the Year
Please read the narrative below for our two teacher of the year nominees. Scroll down to vote.
Melissa Higdon:
Melissa is one of the many new faces to Ebinport this year. From the very beginning, it was apparent that Melissa was "here for kids." I appreciate her for showing up each and every day with a smiling face, ready to tackle the day's challenges. I love being able to have a quick exchange and update with her in the hall before she welcomes my kids "into the house." When I go to pick my kids up, they are ALWAYS still actively engaged in some way - playing instruments, singing songs, creating rhythms on their own, and so much more. Above all else, I appreciate Melissa's consistency and positive attitude throughout this semester of change. Since August, Melissa has truly exuded the attitude that ALL of our students are capable and worthy of a performance and time to shine. This was evident in our Veteran's Day program, Thanksgiving program, and Christmas in Carolina musical. Melissa, thank you for stepping up and being a breath of fresh air to our school. I appreciate your willingness to challenge ideas that you believe are not in the best interest of students while still being so positive. Our kids are lucky to have you.
Kristi McGuirt:
Mrs. McGuirt is the kind of teacher everyone would love to have! She is compassionate, knowledgeable, and professional. Mrs. McGuirt's students adore her because they sense the genuine love she has for each of them. Mrs. McGuirt is a leader in the education profession and also at Ebinport Elementary School. She has served as a mentor teacher for Winthrop interns, as well as new teachers. She has also served on the Leadership Committee and School Improvement Council for many years. Mrs. McGuirt is an expert teacher and makes it a priority to stay abreast of best practices and current trends in education. She is one of the most devoted and hard-working teachers I know and would be most deserving of this honor!
