The YMCA CSI team received a clothing donation from Cradles to Crayons in order to serve and assist the Boone community. The YMCA CSI team will host a distribution day to give out supplies to families in need on Friday, October 1st, from 8:30-10:30 am or until supplies remain. The distribution day will be held near Door 3 on Washtenaw. .Available supplies include; sweaters, pants, shorts. There are also toothbrushes, toothpaste, and soap bars available.

The YMCA CSI after school program at Boone started Monday, September 20th. Programming will be held Monday-Thursday from 3:15 pm - 6:00 pm. There are currently 15 total spots available for students grades 3rd-5th to register. Registration must be completed on physical copies and needs to be submitted before programming begins. If you do not have access to a printer, you have the option of obtaining a physical copy of the registration forms at Boone in room 104.

The YMCA CSI after school program offers the following programs and more: Reflect and Connect, Homework Help, Fitness Fun, Visual Arts, and more! All YMCA CSI programs are completely free!

Because of the limited spots available, the YMCA CSI after school program will begin the 2021-22 school year by serving students in grades 3rd-5th . Daily attendance will be required for all students registered in the YMCA CSI after school program. More than 3 unexcused absences will lead to dismissal from the program in order to provide the space for students that need and will utilize the opportunity. A waitlist will be created in order to provide families an opportunity to register once more space becomes available or additional staff come on to the team.

Parents and guardians are required to participate in monthly program opportunities as well. Throughout the school year there will be mandatory program orientations, student showcases, and monthly parent meetings. Families who have students involved in the YMCA CSI programs are asked to commit to engaging in these opportunities that provide their students with additional support.

Siblings of students enrolled in our YMCA CSI after school program will be prioritized on the waitlist, so that they are able to join programming once we have capacity. Please reach out to Josh Fidler at jfidler@ymcachicago.org with any questions.

Flip to Remote Clarification

When there is a known COVID positive case, principals have the ability to flip classrooms to remote while following district guidance until the contact tracing team has completed the contact tracing process. Please note that in these instances, there is not school-wide notification that goes out immediately, rather only those individuals who have been temporarily identified as closet contacts are notified and informed to quarantine. Once the contact tracing team has completed their intake process, school-wide notification will be sent.

Also, it is important to note that in some instances, a class will be flipped to remote and then flipped back within a few days. This may happen in instances when there is a rapid COVID test that indicates a positive test result, but then the PCR test comes out negative. So far this year we have implemented the flip to remote policy on 4 occasions.

Class Cleaning

When a student is sent to the Care Room because they are demonstrating COVID symptoms, the school has to temporarily move the classroom to an alternate location while the classroom is cleaned. You may hear your child talking about changes in classroom environments, but know that just because a child is sent to the Care Room, it does not mean that there is a COVID positive case in the classroom. The school will notify any family if a child has been identified as a close contact to a COVID positive case.

Siblings & Sick Student Protocols

If a student is sent to the care room and then sent home due to COVID symptoms, siblings will also be sent home until there is confirmation that the student does not have COVID or an alternative diagnosis received from a doctor.

Quarantine

Only unvaccinated, direct contacts to COVID positive cases will be notified to quarantine. Siblings of students under quarantine due to exposure to a COVID positive case are considered secondary contacts. Secondary contacts do not have to quarantine since they have not been directly exposed to COVID.

Testing

Boone began weekly COVID testing on Monday, September 20th. Staff from Thermo Fisher were onsite to facilitate the testing process for students and staff. Currently, we are scheduled to test on Mondays, although the date may change as the schedule for Thermo Fisher is worked out.

Parents/guardians will need to complete the COVID-19 Testing Consent Form that was emailed to all parents and guardians from CPSnoreply@cps.edu on Friday, August 27, 2021 if you want your child tested.

If you did not receive the email from CPS, you can complete the paper version and return to your child's teacher.

Aclaración sobre el cambio a remoto

Cuando se conoce un caso positivo de covirus, los directores tienen la posibilidad de pasar las aulas a remoto siguiendo las directrices del distrito hasta que el equipo de rastreo de contactos haya completado el proceso de rastreo de contactos. Limpieza de la clase

Cuando un estudiante es enviado a la Sala de Cuidados porque está demostrando síntomas de COVID, la escuela tiene que trasladar temporalmente el aula a un lugar alternativo mientras se limpia el aula. Pero sepa que el hecho de que un niño sea enviado a la Sala de Cuidados no significa que haya un caso positivo de COVID en el aula. La escuela notificará a cualquier familia si un niño ha sido identificado como un contacto cercano a un caso positivo de COVID.

Protocolos para hermanos y estudiantes enfermos

Si un estudiante es enviado a la sala de atención y luego enviado a casa debido a los síntomas de COVID, los hermanos también serán enviados a casa hasta que haya confirmación de que el estudiante no tiene COVID o un diagnóstico alternativo recibido de un médico.

Cuarentena

Sólo se notificará la cuarentena a los contactos directos no vacunados con casos positivos de COVID. Los hermanos de los alumnos en cuarentena por exposición a un caso positivo de COVID se consideran contactos secundarios. Los contactos secundarios no tienen que estar en cuarentena ya que no han estado expuestos directamente a COVID.

Pruebas

Boone comenzará las pruebas semanales de COVID el lunes 20 de septiembre. El personal de Thermo Fisher estará en el sitio para facilitar el proceso de pruebas para los estudiantes y el personal. Actualmente, estamos programados para hacer las pruebas los lunes, aunque la fecha puede cambiar a medida que el horario de Thermo Fisher se resuelve.

Los padres/tutores tendrán que completar el formulario de consentimiento para la prueba COVID-19 que fue enviado por correo electrónico a todos los padres y tutores de CPSnoreply@cps.edu el viernes 27 de agosto de 2021 si desea que su hijo sea examinado.

If you are setting up your Parent Portal account for the first time, please visit the First Time Parent Portal Set-Up link. This is a one-time step and not necessary after every school year. Once you receive your email from Aspen to help set up your username and password, you can access Parent Portal at Aspen Parent Portal.

If you already have a Parent Portal account, but are running into technical issues (forgot password, locked out, etc), please email Boone's tech coordinator Patrick Chi (ptchi@cps.edu) so he can reset your account. Once your account is reset, you should receive an email from Aspen with further instructions. Additional information provided by the district can be found at this link.
