Happenings in Room B121
Team Justice Social Studies
Week of September 15, 2013
Our first week of school went off without a hitch! It was great meeting everyone and learning about each other. We also dived right into our first unit in Social Studies, Citizenship in Action. With this unit, we will aim to answer the following guiding questions:
- What characteristics does a productive global citizen display?
- What has history taught us about the importance of global citizenship?
- How can you become a productive citizen of the world?
- Why is it important to become aware of global issues?
Together we brainstormed what made a good citizen and what characteristics good citizens display. We thought about ourselves as citizens as we worked on vacation postcards. I am excited to see what students have created!
This week we consider what it means to be an individual within the community. In doing so, we will complete a community puzzle assignment worth 20 points. Further, we will celebrate Constitution Day on Tuesday, September 17 and conclude the week by discussing the foundations of government.
Some important happenings this week:
*Picture Day Wednesday September 18, 2013
*Out of this World Astronaut due Wednesday September 18, 2013
*Community Puzzle Piece due Friday September 20, 2013
