Lago Vista Intermediate School
District UIL Information
UIL PARTICIPANTS AND PARENTS PLEASE READ CLOSELY!
Our District UIL Meet will be at Florence Elementary on Friday, January 26. Even though it is an early release day, all Lago Vista Elementary and Intermediate UIL contestants will need to stay at school and not go home at early dismissal. Students will eat lunch at school prior to dismissal. Buses will load at 11:00 AM to transport UIL contestants to Florence. Events conclude at 4:30 PM, and buses will leave Florence immediately after.
We will return to Lago Vista around 5:30 PM. If you plan to attend the meet, you may sign your child out to ride home with you. If you want your child to ride home with a person other than yourself, you must indicate that information on the form coming home in Friday folders, and that person must sign the child out before leaving the meet. The permission slip must be returned on or before January 17th in order for your child to attend the UIL competition, even though he/she made a team.
BUS DROP OFF FOR GRADES 2-3 WILL BE AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
BUS DROP OFF FOR GRADES 4-5 WILL BE AT THE INTERMEDIATE CAMPUS.
If your child is going to ride the bus back to Lago, please be at the appropriate campus at 5:30 to pick up your child. If you have children at both the Elementary and Intermediate campuses, make sure to indicate on which campus you will pick up.
Students may bring cell phones, and are also encouraged to bring books, games, hand-held devices, etc. to keep them occupied while they are waiting for their event. There will be Wi-Fi access. LVISD will not be responsible if student electronics are lost or stolen.
There will be a concession stand for the children to purchase items to eat and drink.
If you have any questions regarding the UIL meet, please contact your child's event coach or Cathy Evans, UIL Coordinator, at cathy_evans@lagovista.txed.net.
UIL Academic Meet Meal Deal Preorder
Florence ISD, host of the District UIL meet, just sent information regarding the option to purchase a meal deal for the UIL meet on Friday, January 26th. The meal deal is $5 and includes a slice of pizza, drink and candy bar.
This year all meal deals must be pre-ordered, so if you would like to purchase a meal deal for your child, please send an email with your child's name and grade to stacie_davis@lagovista.txed.net no later than 4:00 pm on Tuesday, January 23. Orders will not be accepted after that date. Pre-ordered meal deals will be paid for on the day of the meet, so you will need to send $5 with your child on that day to pay once he/she arrives in Florence. Please do not send money before the meet. There will be a concession stand available for those that do not purchase a meal deal, and students will eat lunch prior to leaving LVIS .
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the front office.
Dressing for Recess
Please help us by dressing your child for colder weather. We want our students to be able to enjoy recess outside this time of year. Please be sure that they dress warm enough to be comfortable outside.
Reminder about our Re-Do Policy
Please remember that your student brings home graded work in the Wednesday folder each week. Please review that work and encourage your child to correct and return any work that received a grade below 79. Your child is also schedule a time with his/er teacher to correct tests.
From the Student Handbook
Re-do/Re-test Policy (Grades 4-5)
We encourage students to use feedback provided by grades by reflecting on their mistakes
and using it to improve their understanding of concepts being assessed. Please understand
that the re-do/re-test option is not a free pass for students not to study or to turn in carelessly
completed work. In order for a student to have this opportunity, they must do something to
show the teacher that they are committed to improving their performance. This might include
additional time with the teacher, extra practice assignments, or making corrections on
previously completed work. A student may earn up to a 79% on a re-test or re-do of an
assignment. Students may not redo daily grades for which they received a zero.
Daily Grades
1. Students who receive a 79% or lower on a daily assignment will have one opportunity to
re-do an equivalent assignment, as determined by the teacher, for a maximum grade of
79%. Students may not re-do assignments for which they received a zero due to not
completing or turning it in.
2. Students must initiate the process to re-do an assignment. Emailed requests from
parents to re-do an assignment will not be accepted. Handwritten parent notes presented
to the teacher by the student will be accepted in Grades 2-5. The ultimate goal is to
create learners who are able to be effective self-advocates.
3. Students must complete the “re-do” assignment in the calendar week after the
failing grade was earned. (For example, whether a student earns a failing grade on
Tuesday or Friday, they must complete the re-test by the end of the following week. This
is the case, even in the event of “short” weeks containing fewer than 5 days.)
4. Assignments may be given as a home assignment or redone at school. The teacher will
determine which option is most appropriate for each assignment.
5. A student may earn up to a 79% on their re-do of the assignment.
6. A student may not earn a grade lower than the original grade.
Parent Conferences
Counselor’s Corner

However, if you have concerns or questions about your child’s progress, please contact his/her teacher, or me. I am happy to help set up a conference with your child’s teachers to discuss a plan of action! We want our students to develop into lifelong learners. Every learner has their own challenges along the way and we are here to support and encourage!
