Shepard Elementary 2019-20 info!
What do I need to know for school to start?
A Little of This and a Little of That
Dear Shepard Parents,
Welcome to the 2019-20 school year! We are so excited and looking forward to welcoming the students and families back to school.
- August 12th - First Day of School! School starts on Monday, August 12th! Doors open as early as 7:00 a.m. to drop students off. Beginning at 7:30 am parents may walk their students to their new classrooms on the first day only without signing in at the front office. Starting day two, students will be asked to walk to class on their own. There will be plenty of adults in the halls on the second day of school and throughout the week to help students get to their classroom.
- First Week of School-Please give us this time to develop our lunch procedures. We want students to get accustomed to their new routine and avoid any recurring separation anxiety. Having visitors at lunch will remove the opportunity to quickly learn cafeteria procedures.
What are the school hours?
Doors open at 7:00 am. Students arriving at this time should go to the gym. Breakfast is served from 7:00 to 7:40. At 7:30, front doors open and students may go to their classrooms. Instruction begins at 7:45 . School ends at 2:45. The front office is open from 7:00-3:30.
What if my child leaves an item (lunch, backpack, etc.) at home?
Items can be left in the front office labeled with the sticky notes provided, and we will deliver it to the classroom.
What if I need to pick my child up early? Or change his/her “going home” procedure?
If your child needs to leave early, please plan to pick up before 2:30. After this time, students are busy packing up and transitioning to carpool/PASAR/etc. If you need to change your child’s “going home” procedure, please contact the front office before 2:00.
How do I contact my child’s teacher?
Teachers are available through e-mail or phone during their conference time or after school. Please allow up to 24 hours for a response. Keep in mind that when someone from the school contacts you, we’ll leave a message if possible.
Can I bring birthday treats on my child’s birthday?
We love for children to feel special on their birthday! Treats for the class are very welcome! Treats will be distributed by the classroom teacher at a time decided by the grade level teachers in accordance with our school district's policies. Birthday party invitations may be distributed from student to student before school, after school, or during recess. If you have any specific questions, please contact your child’s teacher.
What safety measures are in place at Shepard?
All visitors and parents visiting the campus MUST enter through the front doors and present their driver’s license to the office staff to receive a badge from our Raptor system. All adults in the building will wear an identification badge. Only staff members have access to enter the building from other exterior doors. Students and staff regularly practice fire, severe weather, and intruder drills.
