Welcome to CBH!
The Clara Barton Hawthorne school year has gotten off to a great start! Our younger students are working hard to learn all the new patterns and procedures that are needed to make it through the school day.
At this time we would like to thank our 2nd graders for helping to guide our kindergarten students through the lunch line the first few days. What a wonderful model of our school beliefs.
Our current enrollment at the Clara Barton campus is 199 students and at the Hawthorne campus it is 200. Our class size average is 20 students. We currently have 3 sections of all grades except grade 2 and 4. We have four sections of grade 2 and 4. A special thanks goes out to our office staff who have done a great job in registering our students this year.
Please contact the main office if you would like to schedule a meeting with Ms. Folden or Mrs. Rainsberry to discuss a concern. We look forward to hearing from you and helping with any questions or concerns you may have.

Meet Mrs. Rainsberry- New Assistant Principal/Intern
Hello! My name is Erica Rainsberry. I will be the Assistant Principal at CBH, as well as the Student Performance Strategist. I have lived in Fargo for approximately 30 years. I am originally from Montana. I am married and have two children, Colton (24) and Devon (19). I raised my children in Fargo Public Schools and am proud to be a part of the FPS family.
My educational philosophy focuses on believing that all children can learn. We must find the best way to accomplish this task. My previous experience includes both regular and Special Education. Dedication and organization are strengths that have allowed me to be successful in each position that I have held over the years. I also believe communication is essential in the educational setting.
In my spare time, I spend time with my husband and children. We have been married for 26 years and we enjoy the RedHawks and the Bison. My family enjoys board games and cards, watching movies, and preparing food to eat (they mostly like to eat what I prepare). I am a quilter, I knit and crochet, and spend a fair amount of time on Pinterest looking for my next project. I also love reading so I spend a great deal of time on my couch with my ereader and the dog!

Procedures at the Beginning of the Day
At Hawthorne campus, the doors will remain locked until 7:45 AM. Students are asked to enter the main door after 7:55 AM (northwest side) and go into the gym unless they are eating breakfast. Once in the gym, they sit with their classmates until the first bell rings. We ask that our students do not go to their lockers before the school day begins. Thank you for helping your child with these procedures.
**We will allow parents to walk children down on the first two days of school. Starting on Aug. 26th- parents will need to say their goodbyes at the door. Thank you for helping your child become independent.
At Clara Barton campus, the doors are locked until 7:35 AM. Students should enter door #4 after 7:45 AM (southeast door) and go into the gym unless they are eating breakfast. Students will sit with their classmates until the first bell rings. We ask that our students do not go to their lockers or classroom before the school day begins unless they have a signed pass from their teacher in their student planner the night before.
Tardy Procedure
The following is the late/tardy procedure that is followed at CBH. This is a school-wide plan that will take place in each classroom. Our goal is to have all students ready to learn when the day starts.
Thank you for your help in reaching our goal.
- Students will be in the classroom once the second bell rings.
- They will be prepared and ready for their day.
- Any students who walk into the classroom after the second bell will be marked tardy by the classroom teacher.
- Once lunch count is submitted, any students who enter the classroom need to report to the office for a tardy slip.
- Once having entered the classroom, students must have teacher permission to leave the classroom for any reason.
September Newsletter Counselor’s Corner
Welcome back to school! This month I will start guidance lessons on study skills. It is important for kids to develop good study skill habits early. To the right are some tips to get back into a routine for school success from the NDSU parenting Resource Center.
In September guidance lessons focus on identifying skills to help students to be successful in school.
At each grade level, kindergarten through 5th grade, the first skill we will be focusing on is listening with attention. This includes how to focus attention when there are other things that could be distracting in the classroom.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!

Art Expectations
Teaching art is not about the pretty picture, it is about inspiring the big picture.
Through the production, appreciation, and critical analysis of visual art, I work toward inspiring my students to take initiative, be spontaneous, and conquer the fear of overcoming a challenge.
In visual art there is a fine line between creating a fun learning environment that inspires the true flow of artistic creation and maintaining an acceptable level of classroom discipline. Following are the classroom expectations to ensure an orderly, safe, and productive learning environment for all students.
Expectations for participation in art are as follows:
- Students are to work to the best of their ability.
- Students are to exhibit respect for other students, their artwork, the art classroom and all art materials and tools.
- Students are expected to participate in clean-up.
By experiencing success in art class I hope all of my students feel the ability to be successful in anything that they set their mind to accomplish or achieve. A student, who recognizes the ability and takes the initiative to achieve a goal, will always be “exceptionally exceptional."
If you have any questions or concerns about your students art experience, please feel free to contact me:

Welcome back to a new school year at Clara Barton Hawthorne! We’re off to a great start at both campus libraries checking out the many new titles that came in over the summer break.

Your child will have a weekly library class, and during this time we will have a lesson and book checkout. Students will select books for instructional reading, and for reading pleasure. These books may be checked out for 2 weeks. Please help remind them to return the books as soon as they are finished. We have so many great books in our library-let’s see how many we can read!
