Keeping our Community Informed of Planning for 21-22 (and beyond)
Earlier this afternoon, an invitation was sent out to all Mountain View families and staff to join a workgroup to address the overcrowding in our school. This group will meet weekly in June to review data, discuss needs, suggest and consider options regarding overcrowding at Mountain View.
Interested staff and families should complete this form to express interest this week. Members will be randomly selected and notified before next week’s organizational meeting on Wednesday, June 9th from 6:00-7:30 on Zoom.
The group’s meetings will be live-streamed for our larger community to view, and a website will be established to distribute all materials. The group will also provide opportunities for the community to engage in the process and provide input.
In the spirit of keeping our entire school community informed about meetings, below is information shared with families of rising 5th graders after our meeting last week:
the feedback form - please continue to send ideas here
Last but not least, the long-term Master Planning Study meeting, originally scheduled for June 9, has been postponed until July to give us the opportunity to focus on our student needs for the 21-22 school year.
Mountain View is an amazing, passionate community, and we are confident that, together, we will find a solution that is best for all Mountain View Colts and families. Contact Principal Wells if you have any questions about this section of the newsletter.
Wrapping Up This School Year
We can’t believe the end of this school year is rapidly approaching. While we are savoring every moment with our children, we are also doing our best to put plans in place for a smoother year next year.
June 8, next Tuesday, is Election Day, and our school is a voting location. Our goal is to keep our routines as close to a typical day while keeping the children separate from the voting public. There will be changes in walking/ recess patterns, arrival and departure could be delayed, “Grab and Go” lunches will be served, EDEP will be located in a different part of the school. We thank you in advance for helping us prepare your child for these tweaks to our usual school day.
June 15 is the last day of school, and it is a half-day for students. Lunch will be provided and busses will depart Mountain View at 11:40am. Virtual students will share specific schedules next week, but all students will have the opportunity to say goodbye that morning as well.
June 17 will be a “drive-through” drop off for any outstanding library books and all technology (hotspots, iPads, and laptops)
Mountain View Staff updates
First, we are pleased to announce that last week Brad Handrich was officially named our second Assistant Principal so we will have that continuity for our children, families, staff and community next year.
We also wanted to share that after 25 years, Mark Rough has decided to retire at the end of this school year. If you have any photos or messages that you would like to include in our end-of-the-year tribute to him, please send them directly to Lizmer Montalvo at: lmontalvo@k12albemarle.org before next Tuesday.
Intent Forms for Next School Year: Please respond by June 11
Yesterday, ACPS emailed out intent forms for the next school year. They are due completed by June 11. Please help us plan ahead by completing the form sent to your email. There are three questions for all families:
Are you planning for your child to attend Mountain View in person or attend ACPS’ Virtual School next year? (You are committing to attend at least ½ a year at a time)
If your child is coming in person, will you need bus transportation?
Do you have internet connectivity at home? (This is a required question by VDOE for all families)
Sometimes SPAM filters prevent surveys from going through -- we can have them resent to you. If you have questions about your survey or options, give us a call at Mountain View.
Summer School Updates
Confirmations for summer school were sent out. If you have questions, contact Assistant Principal, Rosaura Gonzalez by calling school or emailing: rgonzalez@k12albemarle.org .
Reminder: Attendance for Virtual and In Person Learning
If your child will be absent, please call the front office at 434-293-7455, email MountainViewOAs@k12albemarle.org, or text 434-981-1241 with the reason for their absence.
