The Serene Scoop
Serene Hills Elementary School --- Aug. 27, 2021
Message from the Principal:
Wow! The first FULL week of school has flown by. Teachers and students are working hard, building community, and starting to dive into curriculum.
I want to thank our PTO for hosting such a wonderful Back to School Bash last night! Craig O's and Ice Cream 2 U were a delicious hit. Thank you to everyone that attended, as well. We are so blessed to have such a friendly school community.
As mentioned in Mr. Norton's email earlier today, we will continue to limit visitors on campus, during the school day, for the time being. This includes Curriculum Night. Teachers will instead be sending out their specific Curriculum Night Presentations to their families at 4PM on Thursday, Sept. 16th. In addition, we will not have visitors for lunches. This will be re-evaluated following each change in our current stage under Austin Public Health’s COVID-19 RIsk-Based Guidelines. ARDs and 504 meetings will continue to be offered virtually, but parents requesting in person meetings for ARD or 504 meetings can certainly be accommodated.
This month, our schoolwide theme is our school as a welcoming place where every student feels like he or she belongs. In our morning announcements and school assembly, we’ll be reminding students to welcome others and act and speak in safe, respectful, and responsible ways. In addition we’ll be reminding students of our school rules with the acronym SAIL:
- Show Respect
- Act Responsibly
- Improve Our Community
- Live Safely
We’ll also begin teaching the Second Step program, which includes lessons that support these behaviors.
Support your child at home in welcoming others and acting and speaking in safe, respectful, and responsible ways. Please tell your child’s teacher if you have questions about specific ways you can help your child with these behaviors at home.
Here at Serene Hills, we want everyone to feel welcome and that they belong. We know we’re welcome when people smile at us and greet us with friendly words. We know we belong when we’re included and invited to play at recess. We know we belong when we notice the ways we’re all the same and accept the ways we’re different. This week, encourage your student(s) to take time to greet others with a smile and invite them to play.
I hope everyone enjoys their weekend.
Warmly,
Keegan Luedecke
SHE Principal

FRESH START RUN CLUB IS BACK!
Dear Parents,
Kids and parents have been asking, and we have settled into the school year, so run club is back! S.H.E. run club is open to 1st-5th graders who would like to start their mornings off with a run on the track. We are going to meet in the mornings from 7:20-7:40 up on the track. All are invited. Students must be on time. If they come after 7:25 we will send them to class. We will kick off the first spring run on September 13th. Please be on time!
Students will report to the gym between 7:20-7:25 to leave their belongings inside, grab their EZ scan card, and then head to the track. A coach or adult will lead them up. The first week will be a bit hairy as we get kids EZ cards out from their class box.
Your child will need to be dressed PE ready. It is a privilege to come to the run club. Students’ behavior and effort must meet expectations.
Run club helps students get a fresh start to their morning and enter the classroom ready to learn.
All 1st-5th grade levels can come Monday-Thursday. If it gets too crowded we will split it back up. We will not meet on Fridays.
If it is rainy or the weather is below 40 degrees we will not meet.
I am looking forward to working with your kiddos and helping them start their mornings off on the right foot!
COACH Z
