Message from the President- The Time is Now!
It is my honor to serve as your President along with such dedicated Board members. The elected and appointed members bring a wealth of expertise, a plethora of educational experience, and work contributions to the bilingual/ESL field, and I could not be more excited about the things we will accomplish together for you and with you.
As your President, I am joyful for the opportunity to contribute to moving our organization forward. I invite you to join BEAM in the efforts to bring positive change in bilingual/ESL education as we move forward and leave the pandemic times behind.
The 38-year legacy of educating, advocating, and collaborating on building effective bilingual/ESL programming in the DFW metroplex for our multilingual learners is stronger than ever. Over the past three years, bilingual/ESL educators grew in resilience and persevered during unprecedented educational challenges. Pandemic times were challenging for everybody and our multilingual learners faced additional challenges such as lacking appropriate services and programming and receiving adequate linguistic accommodations to meet linguist and academic needs. Our multilingual students may feel overwhelmed, encounter feelings of self-doubt, and be disengaged. Yet, it is up to us, nosotros los educadores, who have the opportunity to turn it around.
Whereas our multilingual students suffered learning losses amidst existing obstacles, the time is now to rise and soar!
Become a member. Attend the general member meetings. Get involved in planning the 2023 Symposium. Grow professionally. Advocate for our students. The time is now, not mañana.
Dr. Helena Castañón-Vargas
