Mercury Monday Memo

April 1, 2013

Welcome Back

I hope that each of you had a wonderful Spring Break and you are ready to jump right in to this busy season of school! We are wrapping up the 3rd grading period over this next week and a half. The last day of the 3rd grading period is Wednesday, April 10. We will then be entering the state testing period. Every 2nd through 11th grade Mercury student has been given a schedule of the time and place for their testing. Site-based students will be testing during the week of April 29 - May 2. We have arranged for teachers to give the tests and reserved the places for testing, so it is very important that each student attends their scheduled testing appointment. If you have not received your testing schedule, or have an emergency and are unable to attend on your scheduled testing day, please call the office as soon as possible at 951-250-4553.

Please read all of the information and make note of the important dates below. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Tammy Kirkpatrick
Head of School

Meet Up on Tuesday
If you signed up to attend the Mercury Meet Up at March Air Force Base, remember that you must be there at 9:00am sharp! There will be no classes on site on Tuesday, so if you do not attend the Meet Up, you will have a work at home day.

Uniform Policy

Students must be in the dress code listed in the schol handbook each day that they attend the learning center. Copies of the dress code are available in the office. Students will be issued one written warning. Then, if a student is out of dress code again, a parent will be called to bring in the proper attire while the student waits in the office.

Parent Conferences

Parent Conferences will be held this month. Be sure to take advantage of this valuable opportunity to meet with your child's teacher/advisor to discuss your child's strengths, successes, and strategies for growth. More information will be emailed to you.

The STAR Test

The California Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program measures how well the California education system and its students are performing.

These tests measure student achievement in:

  • Mathematics
  • English–language Arts
  • Science
  • History-social science

Teachers, parents and education officials can use the results to identify strengths and weaknesses in order to improve student learning. Students and their parents can compare individual academic abilities against grade-level requirements and the results of other students in that grade.

The goal in California is to have all students perform at the proficient or advanced level.
