Glows and Grows

Glows: Thanks to all of the staff who are taking steps towards creating a solid foundation for writing instruction in the classroom. I see most classes with student writing up, with rubrics up, and many with anchor charts up.

Also, thanks to the teachers who have taken on class coverage the last two weeks. I dreaded having to cover for a class when I was in the classroom and so I keenly recognize the extra stress that comes with covering classes or taking on more students. It is appreciated.

How can you work with your grade level peers to make sure writing instruction is more systematic? How do we instruct our students through each step of the writing process, every time? What help do you need to become a better writing instructor?

Trunk or Treat

Trunk or Treat was a fantastic success with a HUGE turnout and tons of fantastic trunks. What a great way for our school to celebrate community. So many smiles.

Thank you to Dina and Travis and all of the volunteers for making this a premier CHE event for our families. I have posted a few photos below and you will find a ton online on the PTA facebook and my twitter.

Big picture

Attendance Punch Card

Thank you to Mrs. Byland for coming up with an attendance punch card. The card (see email attachment) is for students who are struggling to come to school regularly/have missed 10% of the school year. The basic premise is similar to a coffee or sandwich punch card. For every day they come to school, punch out a coyote paw on the card. When they reach 10 punches, recognize them with a paw pride or some other comparable recognition.

The Tier 2 MTSS team has identified particular students who could benefit and I will email you if you have a student has been identified. Even if you don't have a screened student, feel free to use the punch card if you have a student who you think could benefit.

Winter time is when the rates start slipping towards 96%. So much of that is out of our control with the arrival of cold and flu season but if we can encourage all healthy students to come to school, we can easily surpass our goal. Thanks for your support!

Halloween Day Parade

Halloween is Wednesday, Oct. 31st. We will hold the parade that day. This year we will do ONE lap around the blacktop, through the amphitheater, and then release you to your classroom. Two laps was entirely too long and just bogged down as classes waited. If you have any students that are unable to participate, please allow them to be in the library that morning. I can't wait to see your awesome costumes!

Conference Week

Conference week is coming up starting next Friday, November 9th. Please alert me when your report cards are complete.

Conference NIGHT will be available on Thursday, November 15th. I will have dinner here by 5:00 p.m. Remember, this is totally voluntary. You can hold conferences as late as 8:00 p.m. that day. Right now, I have 9 teachers who have noted interest. If you change your mind, please let me know so I can adjust how much food I bring in for dinner.

I will list SOME calendar events below but you should have access to MY calendar and the SCHOOL calendar on google. If you don't, let me know and we will get you added.
