ACCESS TESTING
Beginning next month CHS will be conducting a state required assessment for English Language Learners. This assessment is called ACCESS and provides important feedback about the progress of our English Language Learners in Reading, Speaking, Listening and Writing. Students will take the test using our school’s computers. Only students who are currently identified as members of the English Language Learners (ELL) Program will be assessed. Most of the assessments will be completed during the first two weeks of February but some may continue into March. More information about the ACCESS assessment can be found on the Alaska Department of Education and Early Childhood Development’s ACCESS page, http://education.alaska.gov/assessments/elp.
If you have any questions about this test, you are encouraged to contact us here at school 907-742-3050. You may also contact the District’s ELL Department at 742-4452. Information about the English Language Learners Program in the School District can be found on ASD’s website.
As always, with testing, we ask that families plan so that their students are in school and are well rested for testing. Your patience and support for this process is very much appreciated as this assessment does provide useful information that helps our district and school improve programs for English Language Learners.

WACKO Sign-Ups
Hey Mustangs!
We are 1 month away (2/17) from the biggest school wide competition of the year, WACKO, and teams need to start being created. If you don't know what WACKO is, it stands for Wild And Crazy Kid Olympics. There are 10 relay games and each class, including faculty, compete against each other for ultimate bragging rights. It's a BIG DEAL! This all takes place in an assembly during school. Below you will find a link to each of the relays that will be played, how many players can participate in each relay, and a detailed explanation of each relay and its rules. Every grade will have 1 point of contact for sign ups (see below). You can only sign up for 1 event and it's first come first serve. The goal is to get as many people from each class participating as possible. See any Student Government Representatives if you have any specific questions.

BELL SCHEDULE FOR FRIDAY 1/27
GET YOUR GRADUATION GEAR NOW!!
FILL YOUR FREEZER WITH FISH OR BERRIES? WORK IN LOGGING OR FISH PROCESSING?
Do you create opportunities for your family from Alaska’s natural bounty? For example, in the last few years did you do Commercial or Subsistence Fishing, Agriculture (Including Berry Picking), Logging (with a Logging Company), or Fish Processing (Cannery Work)?
Did that activity require you and your child (or your child over fourteen years of age who did the activities independent of you) to stay overnight away from your residence, were you outside the Anchorage School District (ASD) footprint, and was it an economic necessity for your family (meaning you need the income, harvest, or catch to meet your household’s most basic needs)?
If so, please contact Laura Fenoseff, the Migrant Education Student Success Coach at (907) 742-3135 or Fenoseff_Laura@asdk12.org. The Migrant Education Program provides services and resources to increase opportunities for children to participate in Anchorage’s educational community. Here are just a few of the services and resources available to eligible families:
Academic Coaching
Access to Educational Tools and Resources
Drop-Out Prevention
Homework Support
Literacy Events and Opportunities
Free Lunch Program
