Fall 2017-2018 Student Leadership Jobs
We had 85% of eagles apply for building level Student Leadership Jobs! All students were "hired" and will begin training next week!
All eagles have classroom level Student Leadership Jobs and we hope to increase this percent of eagles who apply for building level Student Leadership Jobs when second semester Student Leadership Job applications are distributed to students following Winter Break.
Watch out for Student Leadership Certificates coming home TODAY!! Congratulations Eagles!
2017 Fall Parent Teacher Conferences
English Landing is excited to host Fall Parent Teacher Conferences on Wednesday October 25 and Thursday October 26. We look forward to spend time with you sharing academic learning updates during this first quarter of the 2017-2018 school year.
Please CLICK HERE to schedule your child's parent/teacher conference on the English Landing Fall Conference Sign-Up Genius!
It is our school's goal to reach 100% parent participation in these upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences!
If needed, we are happy to complete home visits or help arrange transportation in order to be able to meet with ALL EL families.
New EL School Nurse: Mrs. Kimbrel
Please welcome Mrs. Jill Kimbrel to our English Landing health room. She will officially join our team on Monday, October 2, 2017.
We are fortunate the English Landing Health Room position moved from a Nurse I (LPN) level position to a Nurse II (RN) level position. Mrs. Kimbrel graduated from William Jewell with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and has been working at the University of Kansas Hospital Cancer Center in the Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic. Mrs. Kimbrel is also a new member of our EL community as a parent. She has a daughter, Grace, in fourth grade.
Please help us WELCOME Mrs. Kimbrel to the English Landing school community!
During this transition, Mrs. Tammy Saylor, PH Health Services Coordinator, and Dr. Josh Colvin, Director of Student Services, have provided assistance to make sure our students health needs are being met and our health room is staffed by qualified substitutes.
EL Bike Night - A HUGE Success!
Fall Testing: NWEA
The Park Hill School District approved a new assessment software for the 2017-2018 school year. Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) will replace four previously-utilized assessment tools: STAR-Reading, STAR-Math, Acuity and Terra Nova. The NWEA assessment will provide screening and benchmarking data, a more user-friendly online administration, and growth data that can be used in the classroom to ensure targeted instruction for the curricular areas of reading, language, math, and science. NWEA will be administered three times a year and is available to grades K-10. Parents will receive student score reports as well as further information on interpreting results following the ending of the first assessment window in October. For more information about NWEA, visit the company website.
Spring 2017 Terra Nova Home Reports
Due to a change in the Terra Nova reporting platform, parent reports for Terra Nova are not yet available. As of September 13, district principals are able to access student scores and provide assessment results to families upon request. Park Hill School District will distribute the Terra Nova parent reports as soon as they arrive. Thank you for your patience and understanding of this delay.
Did you know? English Landing PTA Membership Drive Update
Repeat: Career Share for Guys and Gals Update and Program Change!
Our Eagle Events Team is finalizing the details of our Career Share focus for the 2017-2018 school year. Career Share classroom visits allow our eagles to learn more about the jobs that adults have in our English Landing community and introduces them to careers they might not even know exist.
This year we would like to have EVERY student have at least ONE parent or family member spend time in his/her classroom in a Career Share visit. We started the Guys and Gals approach years ago and feel that it isn't about the gender separation but instead about EVERY student having a parent or family member visit the classroom sometime during the school day.
At the end of the school year, we will host a DONUT celebration because we know for some eagles (young and old) the DONUT treat was a key component to our Career Share program as it gave us all a chance to spend some additional time together before the school day started. Instead of having this DONUT celebration in the gym, we will host this in every grade level hallway so ALL eagles will receive a morning treat. Family members will be encouraged to join us in this Career Share Celebration in May.
The Eagle Events Team will have additional communication regarding our Career Share sign up opportunities for classroom visits AND the Donut Celebration at the conclusion of the school year in the upcoming week.
