Yarbrough Elementary November Newsletter
From the Principal's Pen
The last few weeks have flown by at YES!!! We have had so many fun events for our students, the Royal Run, the positive behavior celebrations and at the end of October, we had our classroom fall parties. A huge thank you to our PTO who raised more money than ever before in support of our school. We have already placed the order for a new iPad cart stocked with 30 of the newest iPads, the iPad Air 2. Our PTO spent hours preparing for the Royal Run, collecting funds, and helping our students celebrate their accomplishments. Thank you YES PTO, we love your support of YES!
We will host our second Club Day on Friday, November 6th. Our students love going to their clubs and getting together with new friends and building relationships with new teachers.
Reading is such an important part of every subject area at YES. In order to become a better reader, students need more practice, and the best way to practice is by simply reading more. Please encourage your child to visit our Media Center and check out a book. Mrs. McGilberry or Mrs. King would love to direct them to a book that fits his/her interests.
Thanks for your continued support of Yarbrough Elementary,
Pete Forster

From the P.T.O. President
Dear Parents,
I cannot believe that it is already November! To say our school year has been off to a busy and successful start would definitely be an understatement! I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for supporting our PTO and our school through our Royal Run Fundraiser. As a new parent at YES, I entered into the Royal Run Fundraiser unsure of how it would be accepted by our students and families. I was ecstatic as we exceeded all of our goals, and I wanted to share the results with you.
Yarbrough Share of Business Sponsorships = $7711
Student Donations = $26321
Total Raised = $34,032
Total Laps Run = Over 4800 (which is more than 800 miles!)
Mr. Forster and the PTO have already begun the process of purchasing a brand new iPad cart with 30 iPads. This should be in the school and classrooms within the next month or so! We are also able to fund teacher grants, grade level grants, and so much more that will benefit our children and school with these important funds.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the wonderful parents who volunteered countless hours for our Royal Run. We all worked hard, but had a lot of fun in the process. I appreciate all of them so much!
Sincerely,
Kathy Powell
PTO President

Veterans Day
The faculty, staff, and students of Yarbrough Elementary would like to honor those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. We are asking that our students recognize a veteran special to them by inviting him/her to our Veterans Day assembly which will be held on Tuesday, November 10th at 9:00 a.m. The veteran should arrive at Yarbrough Elementary School at 8:45 on Tuesday, November 10th to participate in our program. Following our program, we would like to host the veterans and their YES student at a reception. Please return the blue Veterans Day form to YES before November 3rd if you would like to honor a veteran.
In addition, we plan to honor our veterans with a video presentation that includes pictures of the veterans who are attending the program and those who are unable to attend. If you would like a veteran’s picture included, please submit a picture electronically to the following email address lomcgilberry@auburnschools.org. Include in the email the veteran’s name, branch of service, and the child’s name who invited him/her. Please submit your photo by November 5th.
We are only able to accept pictures electronically. Please do not send any pictures to school with your child. Pictures should be sent as an electronic jpeg file.

Music Message with Mrs. Chenier
During the month of November, our lessons will focus on American Patriotic Music. We will learn these songs and the history of each. In addition to our music class assignments, we will review the military songs in preparation for the Veterans Day Program, discuss the importance of each branch, and understand the reasons why we celebrate this time of year. Please check with your child to find out which military song he/she is learning in music class and ask him/her to sing it for you.

Notes with Nurse Julia
Due to a nationwide shortage of this year’s flu mist vaccine, we will be unable to provide the flu vaccination to our students on November 3rd and the vaccine clinic has been rescheduled for Monday, November 30. If you have already provided a consent form for your child to receive the vaccination during our school’s clinic, your child will now receive the vaccine on the 30th . However, if for any reason you decide you do not want your child to receive the flu vaccination on the 30th, you must notify your child’s school nurse directly. The Alabama Department of Health is advising people to not wait until the flu mist becomes available to receive their vaccination.
If you have any questions, please contact the school nurse. Thank you.
Media Memos with Mrs. McGilberry
I want to thank all the parents who took the time to volunteer at the book fair. It couldn’t have happened without you! Also a great big thank you to all the parents, grandparents, etc. who purchased books for your children. Not only did you get good literature into your children’s hands, but you also helped raise about $7,400.00 that will go directly back to the library. Thank you all so much for your support!

Leader Lessons
During the month of November, we will focus on Habit 4,. Think Win-Win.
Key Phrase: Everyone Can Win
What this habit looks like in action: I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want. I make deposits in others’ Emotional Bank Accounts. When conflicts arise, I look for third alternatives.
