HMS Bearcat Bulletin
October 2018
A Note from Ms. Buschmann
Today is World Teachers Day. It was first observed in 1994 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and continues to be a day to remind us that education is a fundamental right and teachers are an essential piece of that.
World Teachers Day gave me cause to take the opportunity to reflect upon how lucky I am to be in the Gasconade County R-1 School District. We have a staff that is willing to work hard and constantly strives to make our school better, but we couldn't do it without the incredible support from our community and outstanding kids. I hope you enjoy the newsletter this month and help us spread the good news and good happenings at HMS.
Kindness Week
Promoting Kindness through PBIS
Throughout the week we will have various lessons and dress up days to address the expectation of being kind and have some fun. The Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Leadership Committee felt this was an important lesson to focus on. During early adolescence, kids have the expectation of themselves and those around them to be and do everything perfectly. When perfection is not the result- unkindness towards others or themselves is often the result. Lessons will focus on empathy and ways to show kindness to others.
I have included an article that I found from "The Washington Post" on raising nice kids. I hope you will find it as compelling as I did.
