This Friday Sept. 15 is Grandparents Day
We invite all grandparents and adopted grandparents to join us on Sept. 15. This is a special day for all Grandparents of KAES students to come to the school for some entertainment, interactions and a yummy meal that they get to eat with their grandchildren. We will have a short program starting at 10:00 am in the elementary building, followed by time to visit with grandchildren in their classrooms. We will finish this special day with a fantastic lunch in our cafeteria. Lunch can be purchased ahead of time for $10.00 (before Sept. 12) using the link below or may be purchased at the door for $15.00 on the day of the event.

NWEA MAP Testing
This week was NWEA MAP testing. This is not the high stakes testing that you hear about on the radio or television. MAP tests help give teachers a better understanding of what our kids know, and need to know and how they are learning. Look for results to be coming home this next week. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have questions about your child's results. This information will also be discussed in our parent teacher conferences in October.
The Young Peacemaker
I have included an outline of what was discussed and taught this week. My hope is that this can benefit your family at home just as much as at school. Remember your child should already be familiar with these ideas.
“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” (Romans 12:18)
(The big Idea) Conflict is a slippery slope.
(The main points)
What is conflict? It is a clash between hostile or opposing elements or ideas. A fight between people who think or act differently. Fights, quarrels, arguments and disagreements are other names for conflict.
- What are the different responses to conflict? (picture)
- Escape Responses
- Denial: Pretend a conflict doesn’t exist.
- Blame game: Place responsibility for conflict on others.
- Run away: Run away from the reality of the conflict.
- Attack Responses
- Put downs: Say hurtful or threatening things to someone.
- Gossip: Talk behind a person’s back to damage his reputation.
- Fight: Use physical force to get what you want.
- Work-It-Out Responses
- Overlook: Decide to forgive and walk away from a conflict.
- Talk: Confess your sinful choices and confront in a kind way.
- Get help: Coaching, mediation, or arbitration can help you resolve conflict.
God is with us even in conflict. Conflict provides an opportunity to please God (not ourselves) by responding in ways the Bible teaches.
Super Creative Kids
At the end of each 8th grade Social Studies section the students Evaluate and Analyze the Topic (E.A.T.). Students can choose to make a food that connects to the topic. As they studied reconstruction, one student choose to make cake pops. She reconstructed cake and made it into three layers for the three amendments created during the time period. Another student did gumbo as a food the African Americans ate during this time period. They also had to present and explain their connection in multiple ways. Students also choose to present current event articles and connect it to the topic. As you can see from the picture, learning is fun and also filling. Great job 8th grade.
