Tip of the Day
Every day (for now), I'm sharing a tip on Twitter for using itslearning in this extended online closure. I started this on last week, so you can see what has already been shared by going to the slide deck. Bookmark it and come back every day for a new tip!
Today's tip: Less is more!
Protecting Student Privacy Online
- Log in to ClassLink.
- Click on Education Framework.
- Click the little blue link that says "Search for Apps/Vendors."
- Enter the name of the app or website you want to use.
- Click Search.
If more than one result comes up, find the one that you were looking for. If there are more than one for the one you actually want, find the most recent privacy policy date.
While the numbers are important, you really want to see the following statement:
"The school may grant consent on behalf of parents..." OR "If parents have agreed that the school may act as the parents' agent..."
It is also important to pay attention to who is interacting with the tool. Are you as the teacher creating an Adobe Spark Video to make your morning greeting a little more fun? Perfect! But don't ask students to create one. DO you want to use Icons by the Noun Project to emphasize elements in your HyperDoc or daily page? Beautiful! Just don't ask students to find them for you.
Still have questions? Contact me or your ITS!
Whiteboarding Tools
- Use Microsoft Word with the Draw tab.
- Use Microsoft PowerPoint in Presentation mode with the annotation features.
- Use Google Jamboard (check out this one from last week and add an idea!).
- Use Note (contact your ITS if you need the code to upgrade from the Trial).
Special for my Math friends, with Jamboard, you can even set a graph paper background!
