Blended Model Update
Beginning the week of February 8, our sixth grade in person students will be moving across the hall one time during the day. We are cautiously reviewing all safety protocols to create safe conditions where we can have some return to normalcy. Any student movement is supervised and in a safe, socially distanced environment. When we can accomplish these moves safely, we will continue to look for ways to support other grade levels moving from room to room.
Every student will start the day by joining their same advisory class at 7:45 as they have all year. They will follow the same daily schedule (with new elective classes) as they have been using in full distance learning. Some students will be in person and others will be joining remotely. The in person learning will end at 1:10 for all in person students.
WALT: Washington Afternoon Learning Time
We have created an opportunity for a limited number of students to stay at Washington for Afternoon Learning Time (WALT). For safety reasons, students will stay in one dedicated learning space and practice social distancing during this time. Because of strict social distancing, there will be a limited number of students participating in WALT. Masks will be mandatory as they will be during the in person learning time.
If you wish to request a placement in Afternoon Learning Time, you may call the Washington office at 920-663-9570. Your student will be reserved a place in the Afternoon Learning Time roster. If there are more requests than we can accommodate right away, a waiting list will be added to the roster.
SWIRL- A School Goal
The Washington Middle School goal is to improve our students' literacy skills by creating an opportunity for every student, every day, in every class to practice the skills of Speaking, Writing, Interacting, Reading and Listening- SWIRL.
We are excited to continue to share SWIRL into every advisory classroom every Thursday. We are all watching a video of a community member or famous person talking to our students about how they use the skills in SWIRL in their careers. Our goal is for students to see SWIRL in every possible job- letting them know that SWIRL is apart of their future.
Thank you to Megan- RN at Aurora in Two Rivers for sharing her story about SWIRL with our students.

Counselor Corner
We would like to CELEBRATE Mr. Thao and Ms. Gleason this week. It is National School Counseling Week! Thank you to our two fabulous counselors for all their support, love and smiles they share with us all!
While not ideal, but in the midst of this pandemic, elective classes for semester one and semester two this school year were assigned to the cohorts of students within a room and house team to reduce the contact students will have with other students in passing periods and with being in multiple different rooms. With that, we are not accepting requested schedule changes this year. We thank you for your support and perspective on this as an opportunity to discover new interests through exploratory electives. Thank you.
The School Counseling Department would like you all to know they are you here for you during this transition time. If your learner is struggling with the return to blended learning, is experiencing some fears or anxiety about being back to school or if there are just heightened emotions that you would like support with, please reach out to our counseling department.
