BARBER BULLETIN
Week of October 1-5 Creating Joyful Leaders and Learners
Beginning with the End in Mind: K.Barber's reflection from our Leader in Me professional development
Did you know Dana met with our Student Lighthouse Team? Those students were so eager to brainstorm new ways to serve their peers! One of their goals is to present at the Leader in Me Symposium in February in Columbia as well as at a local rotary club. It is our hope that we can help those students find their voice this year and we are going to work hard to expand their opportunities.
During the INTEGRATED TEACHING session, Dana led, she shared many new ways to integrate the habits into your content standards. Ask your grade level rep to share these specific strategies with you. Here's a sneak peek:
- Leadership Tools
- POWER questions
- Real Life Applications
The LEADER IN ME online site is a great place to find many of the resources she shared during this session!
As I reflected on Dana's session with us in the afternoon, I found the video she shared most powerful --- why don't we treat a struggling reader with the same intensity as the ICU? Why don't we video tape ourselves in our teaching practice in order to get better just like players in the NFL do?
Let's make a commitment to our students and operate with a sense of urgency! They deserve it!
HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
Our district is excited to honor and value the voices of these students during Hispanic Heritage Month! Please encourage your students to submit a product. Details are below:

MANDATORY Stop the Bleed training
Now that we have the kits and the public is aware we have the kits, we need to get them disseminated ASAP.
As a side note, the estate of Jacob, the 5K student in Anderson 4 that was shot and killed two years ago, is suing Anderson 4 School District and the Anderson County Sheriff's Department for damages for Jacob's pain, suffering, funeral expenses, and medical bills. See the link here https://www.wyff4.com/article/life-saving-trauma-kits-available-before-fatal-upstate-school-shooting-never-delivered-lawsuit-says/22840434
Please keep in mind there are steps we have to follow.
The Stop-the-Bleed Kits were provided to the district under a Grant DHEC obtained and as such we have to follow their guidelines and those of Palmetto Health, our training center.
The presentation has to be a "Live Audience" training. It CANNOT be sent to teachers to read/ watch.
Teachers must practice the skills of direct pressure, use of a tourniquet with both the CAT and SOFT-T tourniquets, AND wound packing.
The American College of Surgeons and Palmetto Health are holding firm to the hands-on skills demonstration should follow the PowerPoint.
Teachers should stop by the nurse's office this week after the training to practice and demonstrate the skills during their planning period to Nurse Larck to complete this training requirement. This should only take approx 5 minutes per person to demonstrate this proficiency.
