The Wolverine Wake - Up
Issue 33 September 24, 2021
AGS Volleyball
The Au Gres Sims volleyball team fell short in their two most recent matches. On September 16th, the volleyball teams traveled to Posen to play the vikings. The wolverines won the first set but lost in the next three sets. The match is best three out of five which allowed the Vikings a victory. The varsity team played with six girls allowing no substitutions. Allyson Stange, Emily Freehling, Mia Gingerich all had a strong presence at the net. Mary Czarnik and Shea Menard contributed to the team with several assists. On September 21st, the wolverines battled the Hale eagles. The eagles came out strong in the first set. However, the wolverines battled back to win the second set of the match. The wolverines played two more sets but fell short to the eagles. Tomorrow the wolverines volleyball teams take on the Hillman tigers. Come out and support our girls as they take on the tigers. Goodluck ladies! Bring home a W!

Homecoming Match Up Au Gres Hosting Alcona
The undefeated Wolverines are hosting the 2-2 Tigers. The last time these teams met they had a shootout of a game in which Au Gres won 48-46. The Tigers are coming off a loss against Inland Lakes, they are trying to spoil Au Gres homecoming game. Au Gres is coming into this game looking red hot. They beat the Hillman Tigers 48-22 last week they try to continue to keep the streak alive. They are trying to get to 5-0 for the first time in three years. Alcona looks to try to get above 500 for the first time since the opening game of the season. My prediction is that Au Gres wins in an absolute shootout 66-36. I think that because Au Gres is averaging a solid 52 ppg this season, their defense allows 24 ppg. They are a very physical team. Last week they proved that against Hillman. Hillman relies on being the physically dominant team for 48 minutes straight, but it was the opposite; they dominated Hillman for all four quarters. Alcona is a little inexperienced team being so young, their quarterback is a freshman. Au Gres is returning a bunch of seniors, which were starters on last year's team. It’s gonna be a fun one this friday, Au Gres and Alcona both got a lot to prove in this game. Alcona wants to prove why they’re a playoff team, and Au Gres prove the doubters wrong and show that they aren’t no pretender of a team, and prove that Au Gres football is back! Everyone that supports the Wolverines should come out to show support this friday! Au Gres will be hosting Alcona Friday @7pm. Be there!!! Local games in the surrounding area Standish is on the road in Hemlock Friday, along with Tawas on the road against Cheboygan.

Michigan State vs Nebraska
The freshly ranked #20 Michigan State Spartans are facing the unranked Nebraska Cornhuskers this Saturday at 7:00 P.M. The Spartans are coming off a 38-17 win on the road against the Miami Hurricanes, where Payton Thorne threw for 4 touchdowns and zero interceptions. Kenneth Walker III also kept showing his dominance with 27 carries for 172 yards. Walker was also efficient catching too, with 3 catches and a receiving touchdown. The Cornhuskers are coming into this game 2-2 after a tough 23-16 loss to #3 ranked Oklahoma. The Cornhuskers defense was what held them in that game, and Michigan State may have some trouble with that. But, even with that defense, ESPN has the Spartans as favorites. According to ESPN’s Matchup Predictor, the Spartans have a 73.4% chance of winning. The Spartans will be playing at 7:00 P.M at home. You can watch the game on FS1.

Netflix Keeps Buying More Content
Netflix has acquired the rights to all of Roald Dahl’s works, including Matilda, Charlie, and the Chocolate Factory, and other tales that kept you up at night as a kid. Reportedly ringing in at over $680 million, it’s among the biggest acquisitions Netflix has made over the past decade. The deal expands on a 2018 partnership Netflix made for 16 Dahl licenses, which allowed it to start working on several animated series, plus a Matilda the Musical adaptation. Now, Netflix’s ambitions for Dahl’s stories are bigger than the Giant Peach and include games, live theater, products, and more. Less than a year ago, the Dahl estate publicly apologized for antisemitic comments the author made. To make amends, part of this sale’s proceeds will create a charitable fund focused on “children’s health, anti-hate, and anti-racism.” The competition to chill with you is fierce. Netflix is still the largest streaming service in the world with 209 million subscribers, but competitors are catching up—especially Disney+, which launched less than two years ago but already has 116 million subscribers. Dahl’s trove of kids content could help Netflix keep its edge over Disney...and all the other streamers beefing up their catalogs.

How Hunting Helps Conservation
Hunting is a practice that helps both the animals and habitat. Preserving the natural resources should be in the best interest of every hunter. Conservation allows us to still hunt to this day. There are a few organizations that already have been trying to help like the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and many other organizations. Each one has a certain focus but they all are trying to preserve the natural resources for our future generations. In this day and age with growing populations and more construction conservation is important. If conservation wasn’t a thing a lot of animals would be extinct. As humans we have disrupted the natural flow of nature. For instance if there are too many deer then there are more ticks that are getting carried around and more deer that will have Lyme disease. That is why there is regulated hunting.

Ford confirmed that the new high performance Bronco Raptor will arrive next year. It will feature all the suspension components from the Ford Raptor. The only difference in suspension is that all the components will be better but the layout and design is the same. It is speculated that it will feature the same 3.5 litre v-6 and the Ford Raptor. It is not speculated that Ford will put a big v-8 in the Bronco such as the coyote. It will come on 37 inch BF Goodrich all terrain tires. 35 inch all terrain tires will be an option. A 10 speed automatic transmission will be the only option for the new Bronco. Based on the prototypes seen in testing it is believed that the only model available will be a four door hardtop. Bronco Raptors will also have a much wider track width than the previous Broncos. The image above shows amber marker lights which are required on vehicles more than 80 inches wide. The new Bronco Raptor will be the ultimate off road vehicle of 2023 and will more than likely decimate every other manufacturer in off road vehicles.

Mars May Not Be Suitable for Liquid Water
A recent study from the Washington University in St. Louis has found a possible explanation for Mars’ lack of liquid water. For those who don’t know, Mars has been generally accepted to have been covered in water at one time. There is evidence for this in the planet’s geography, with valleys and channels similar to the ones in rivers on Earth being commonplace on Mars as well. However, the rivers and lakes are long gone and they are likely never coming back. For years, scientists have tried to come up with an explanation for this, with mixed results. The theory from this study is as follows: Mars is simply too small. Plate tectonics needs to be able to occur for water to be able to exist in large quantities. Plate tectonics is caused by the heat produced by radioactive elements, so the scientists decided to trace the amounts of radioactive elements on Mars. The amount found was higher than those on the Moon or asteroids, but lower than that of Earth. Thus, Mars couldn’t clear the bar, and the river valleys remain empty.
