Point View School
NEWSLETTER - Week 5, Term 1 - 4 March 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
He aroha whakatō, he aroha puta mai
If kindness is sown, then kindness you shall receive
I would like to offer sincere thanks to the Point View Community. Your kindness to each other in these challenging times is very clear to see. The aroha which surrounds our children forms a layer of safety which no masks or metres of separation can provide. The school is working together with families to keep our children safe whilst also keeping them learning. Our advice is to keep sending your children to school so that their learning can be fully supported.
The online ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions were well attended. I hope you found them helpful in many ways, but especially as a way to begin a positive relationship with your child’s teacher. Thank you for taking part.
In Term 3 and 4 last year we rushed out 88 computers to our students in need. 25 of these are still out there. Thank you to all those who have returned loaned devices. Please check to see if you have a device which you have forgotten to return. We need them for use in our classes each day.

VACCINATION EVENT - 5 MARCH 2022
Kia ora - Malo e lelei - Talofa - Bula Vinaka - Fakalofa Atu - Kia Orana – Hello Point View School Whaanau!
We have been working in partnership with Counties Manukau DHB and Whanau Ora Healthcare to organise a special drive-through pop-up vaccination event for schools in Pakuranga, Howick, Flat Bush and the surrounding area. This event is part of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout for tamarki (5 to 11 years). Other vaccines, dose 1 and 2 and boosters for adults will also be available. This will be a fun event for the whole whaanau, including kai trucks, entertainment, prizes and giveaways.
The new Omicron strain of the virus is highly infectious which means it can be passed on from person to person much more easily than ever before. The vaccine is the best way that we can keep our community safe from COVID-19 and reduces the risk of becoming very ill from the virus (the likelihood of ending up in hospital from COVID-19 is significantly reduced). Although tamariki have a lower risk of getting really sick from COVID-19, the vaccine reduces the risk further especially for children with other health conditions.
Everyone over the age of 5 years is now eligible to have their FREE COVID-19 vaccine – the vaccine for tamariki between the ages of 5 and 11 years was approved prior to Christmas and tens-of-thousands of children in NZ have now joined the millions of kids worldwide who have had their jab.
You do not need to book – simply turn up on the day!
Event details:
Sat 5th March
9am – 3pm
Ormiston Senior & Junior College
275/285 Ormiston Road

Please make sure you and your whaanau have face coverings and if possible, bring your NHI number.

A MESSAGE FROM WORLD VISION - SPONSOR A CHILD
Dear Friends at Point View School,
Thank you. You’ve changed everything for Dara Voem, your sponsored child from Koh Andaet in Cambodia.
I am so pleased to share this wonderful news with you. It’s everything we hoped for, to see children and their families become self-sufficient. It’s what we had our sights set on from day one. And it’s only possible because of you.
Today, Dara’s future is full of promise, and the people of Koh Andaet are ready to stand on their own feet. Thanks to sponsors like you, children are thriving and the community is flourishing.
You set out to change lives years ago when you chose to sponsor Dara. Now, you can see the amazing difference your commitment has made, not just for them, but for all vulnerable children in Koh Andaet.
There’s so much to celebrate!
Children are well-nourished, safe from malnutrition and growing strong. You can be proud that thanks to your love and support, children are growing up in safe, caring homes with families who can provide for them, now and in the future.
Over the years, sponsors like you have built knowledge, skills and capability so Dara and his community is ready to face challenges like COVID-19 on their own.
Have a look through your Thank You booklet included with this letter. You’ll be amazed by the change you’ve made possible. Change that will last. Thank you!
Now, it’s time to say goodbye to Dara.
Goodbyes are sad for all of us. But the timing is right. You have given Dara more help than he could have ever dreamt possible. He will never forget what you’ve done for him and everyone in his community. Your love and support will continue to bear fruit for the rest of his life.
Moving on means helping other children and their families who don’t have the tools to support themselves – yet. Your continued sponsorship will help other children in desperate need to reach the point where they can face the future with confidence.
So, I’d like you to meet Phanna Than.
Phanna lives in the Chi Kreng community in Cambodia. Right now, kids living in this community need your help.
You can give real hope to Phanna, just like you did for Dara. You can help their community to break free from poverty, for good.
Please help transform Chi Kreng into a place where children are safe, educated and healthy.
Point View School, by standing with children who need you, you shine the light of love and compassion into their lives. A glimmer of hope that can give children strength to reach for opportunities and discover what they’re really capable of.
