5th Grade STAAR/6th Grade Benchmark Testing - Closed Campus Lunches
All 5th grade students will take the Math and Reading STAAR on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 9 and 10. All 6th grade students will take the Reading Benchmark on Thursday, April 11.
Some things to know for these days of testing:
- It is extremely important that the students get plenty of rest the night before, and that they eat a good breakfast in the morning.
- Students need to be on time and in their seat by 8:30 am
- 5th Grade students who are absent will automatically have to retest in May. There are no make-up tests given in April if they miss one or both testing days.
- The campus is closed to visitors on these 3 days of testing, and this includes during lunch.
- If you would like to bring your child lunch on either of these days, you can drop it off in the front office, however, no visitors will be allowed to eat lunch in the cafeteria on these 3 days.
- Lunch for the students testing will be later than normal.
Our students are awesome, and they will do a GREAT job!!!
Message from the Counselors
- This past week, Mrs. Douglas visited with the 5th grade students about different learning styles. Your child learned what his/her learning style is, and I encourage you to ask about his/her learning style. I also encourage you to take the quiz by clicking on the link below to find out your learning style: http://www.educationplanner.org/students/self-assessments/learning-styles-quiz.shtml
- April 23-25, Mrs. Douglas will visit with the 5th grade students to discuss their courses for 6th grade. Be looking for those course sheets to come home during this time. They will be due to Ms. Douglas by Friday, May 8th.
- May 22 is Icenhower's College and Career Day. If you have or had a career as a lawyer, doctor, chef, veterinarian, professional athlete, game designer, photographer, professional dancer or animator, we would love to have you as a guest speaker. Dress Code - We need your help!
It is that time of year when the weather gets warmer, and the students want to test the waters with the dress code.
Our ultimate goal is for our students to be in class, however, students who are out of dress code will be placed in ISS if they cannot correct the dress code issue with extra clothes, calling a parent for backup clothing, etc.
Here is what we begin seeing that is not within dress code:
- Short Shorts - if the shorts are more than 5 inches above the knee, then they are out of dress code. Easy way to measure is the length of a notecard.
- Slides - Socks and sandals are not allowed.
- Leggings - These are okay as long as the shirt covers the front and back areas; however, we are seeing shorter shirts with the leggings. See through leggings are an even bigger no-no!
- Gaping/Huge Holes in Jeans - Jeans that have small holes from the knees down are not a major concern, but jeans with multiple holes, large and frayed holes, and holes above the knee, are not okay. If the student has leggings under the holes, that is fine, but no leggings=no bueno!
School Ends at 4:00 PM
Please make sure you pick your child up from school every day on time.
New Spring Power Hour!
See information flyer and permission slip below for more details!
Friendly Reminder about Students Arriving Before 8:00 AM
Several students are arriving VERY early each morning, and they are causing disruptions in front of the school. They are bringing outside balls and play equipment that is NOT allowed.
Icenhower staff begins their duty day at 8:00 AM. Students who are dropped off before 8:00 AM will not be supervised.
The school day ends at 4:00 PM. Please make sure your student is picked up in a timely manner.
No Messages Will be Delivered After 3:00 PM
We understand that emergency situations can come up, and those will be handled accordingly.

This is ME!
This is ME!
"But I won’t let them break me down to dust
I know that there’s a place for us (…)
When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me!"
