2024 Winter/Spring Professional Development Calendar
The school year may be half over but it's not too late to ring in 2024 with some new opportunities to increase your knowledge. We have added new PD, as well as book studies to our existing calendar. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact our office.
Establishing Families as Partners in the Secondary Transition Planning Process
Audience - Local cross agency professionals from local schools, career-technical centers and educational service centers, county boards of developmental disabilities, mental health providers, counselors and supervisors from Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities, and anyone providing service and support to transition-age youth with disabilities.
Dates - January 17, January 24, January 31, February 7, February 14, February 21 and February 28, 2024
Time - 9:00 - 11:00

Description - The intended short-term outcome of this learning series is to increase the capacity of agency personnel to understand, at a minimum, the following critical topics through the lens of secondary transition:
- the value of family partnerships
- cultural and linguistically diverse families
- implicit bias and the evolution of disability
- having authentic and necessary conversations
- and universal design, which includes creating and redesigning communication and experiences to better represent and serve families

Network for Educators of English Learners
Audience - Educators of students learning English
Dates - February 6, 2024 and April 18, 2024
Time - 8:15 - 10:15

Description - As the number of students learning English grows in our region, so does the need for information and networking with other educators to serve this population. Join us to learn about career competency options as well as best practices when working with multilingual families. Each day will have a different presenter and topic. February 6, 2024 - Graduation Considerations for English Learners
During this session, presented by Lisa Hite, M.Ed., SST1 Consultant, participants will explore the career readiness competency option, as well as view industry recognized credentials that might be a good fit for English Language Learners, Work Based Learning and the Ohio Means Jobs Readiness Seal.
April 18, 2024 - Family Roadmap to Support Multilingual Families
During this session, presented by Yesenia Alvarez Padilla, Family Engagement Researcher at the Ohio Statewide Family Engagement Center, participants will be provided an in-depth review of the Family Roadmap resource created to support Ohio multilingual families and encourage family school partnership. Participants will also discuss strategies and next steps to incorporate this resource into their work with families.
Using the Indicator 13 Checklist for Transition Plan Writing with Fidelity
Audience - Educational Professionals or partners who are involved with writing transition plans or providing transition services and activities for students with disabilities.

Description - This full-day training focuses on a full review of how to use the Ohio Indicator 13 Checklist, the tool utilized by the Department of Education and Workforce during the monitoring process to determine compliance in the Transition Plan (Section 5) of student IEPs. Participants will also be provided with additional tools, strategies, and resources to ensure compliance and fidelity in transition planning and writing, that may be used when writing all future transition plans along with a copy of the Indicator 13 Checklist.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a current (redacted) IEP that includes a Transition Plan in order to cross-reference their own current practices in regards to what is discussed and learned during the training.

Adoption and Implementation of the Right Science of Reading Curriculum for Your District
Audience - Curriculum Directors, Special Ed Directors, Curriculum Adoption Committee Members (Made up of a diverse set of teachers and coaches, ensuring that all populations of students and educators are represented).
Dates - March 21, 2024, April 25, 2024 and May 23, 2024
Time - 9:00 - 11:00

Presenter - Debbie Nagel, M.A., SST1 Consultant
Description - This training will focus on the creation of systems and processes to guide a smooth transition to reading science. The systems created can be used for years to come and used as an exemplar for how you select and implement curriculum in all content areas. This is a mini series with 3 distinct areas of focus.
- Day 1 - a) Looking at the transformational potential of transitioning to the science of reading. Using district literacy data to determine a rationale for the transition and ways to build buy-in from all stakeholders. b) Creation of a curriculum selection committee c) Using knowledge from the science of reading and evidence based practices as well as district data to create a clear selection criteria.
- Day 2 - Creating a system for selection and purchase of curriculum aligned to reading science using resources from the Reading League and the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
- Day 3 - a) Using Implementation Science drivers, create a plan for the adoption, implementation, adult progress monitoring and professional development of selected curriculum. b) Looking at student data to determine the effectiveness of instruction and determine areas of need for additional professional development.

If hazardous driving conditions exist, call our office at 800.346.8495 after 6:30 a.m. to learn if your meeting is delayed or cancelled. If we know in advance that we will be delaying or cancelling a training, you will be notified by e-mail using the e-mail address you provided when you registered for the event. Our website will also reflect any updates or changes.
