Biodiversity & The Amazon
Where is The Amazon Rainforest?
The Amazon Rainforest is in South America and is about the size of the continental United States. It is located at the equator which and covers over 40% of South America! One interesting fact is that the size of the rainforest depends on the size of the rivers that flow through it!
Why Is The Amazon Rainforest Imporant
It is a known fact that animals breathe in Oxygen and plants take in Carbon Dioxide. Because of this fact, rain forests are one of the natural defenses to global warming. The rainforest trap in so much carbon dioxide, thus regulating global temperatures.
Dangers to the Rainforest
Deforestation
The illegal cutting down of trees for resources and land.
Forest Fires
Many people burn down the forest as a means of faster deforestation. This gives off huge amounts of carbon dioxide!
Farming and Agriculture
Many farms and agriculture can do slight harm to the rainforest. However, the damage is so slight that there is little to no concern when it comes to farming.
