GYMNAST QUALIFIES FOR NATIONALS
Cienna Samiley, CHS Junior, competed at the USA Gymnastics Region 1 Championships last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada. She competed against the top Junior Olympic level 10 gymnasts from California, Arizona, Utah, and Nevada in her age group. Cienna won the All-Around bronze medal after competing in all four events: Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam, and Floor Exercise. Cienna’s third place finish earned her a spot to compete at Junior Olympic nationals to be held next month in Indianapolis. The best level 10 gymnasts from across the country qualify to nationals. Congratulations, Cienna!

“A+ SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE” CELEBRATION
Chandler High celebrated its 9th A+ School of Excellence Award from the Arizona Education Foundation last Thursday during a short courtyard assembly and lunch time activities. Thanks to Dr. Casteel, Dr. Gilbert, AZ Rep Jennifer Pawlik, AEF’s Kim Graham, and Chandler PD for joining the fun. Special thanks to Kalil Bottling Co. for sponsoring sodas for our students. CHS is honored to be recognized among the best schools in the state of Arizona! And CHS has the most A+ titles in the state!
SSPF DEGREES OF FREEDOM
Degrees of Freedom, the Si Se Puede Foundation’s all girls mechanical robotics team, traveled to their national competition in Houston last Wednesday. The team consists of students from CUSD high schools, with a large number from CHS!

Last Thursday’s dance concert highlighted the terrific talent of CHS Modazz, Advanced Dance and Improv, under the direction of Mrs. Kathy Buren. Not only did CHS dancers perform beautifully, but they also managed the stage, sound and lighting, choreographed the numbers, and much more. Well done!
AP/IB ART
It’s the time of year when AP and IB Art students are preparing to upload their work for testing. Before that’s done, we get to check out the talented students’ work on display in the Fine Arts Building. Congratulations to Mia Cordoba, David Diaz, and Jacqueline Rios for their outstanding displays!
HEALTH AND WELLNESS
On Monday, April 15th, Chandler High School’s Health and Wellness Drug Prevention Program hosted an informational presentation about Alcohol Awareness. Sara Davirro from MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) presented the Power of Parents program, sharing current statistics about teen alcohol use as well as tips for initiating constructive conversations between parents and teens about alcohol and drinking and driving. We also heard from Barry Adkins. Barry shared his story of losing his 18-year-old son to alcohol poisoning.
MOVIE NIGHT
StuCo is hosting CHS Movie Night on the practice field this Friday from 7-10pm. Bring a blanket to sit on and money to purchase food from food trucks. Follow StuCo on twitter @CHSStuco1819 for more info. It’s bound to be a spooky but fun time!
ACT MAKE-UP TESTING
All juniors who missed the April 2nd ACT will take the make-up test on Wednesday, April 24th. A pass will be sent to students needing the make-up test.
PROM INFO AND GUEST REQUESTS
Juniors and seniors, CHS’s Prom is right around the corner! Scottsdale’s OdySea Aquarium is where you’ll want to be on May 4th from 8:00-11:00pm. Tickets are on sale in the bookstore for $60.
Prom guest request passes are now available in the front office and bookstore. Forms must be completed and turned in to Mrs. Templeton’s office no later than 3:30 on Wednesday, May 1st. WE WILL NOT ACCEPT GUEST PASSES TURNED IN AFTER THE DEADLINE. NO EXCEPTIONS. The final approved guest list will be posted on the bookstore window on Thursday, May 2nd. Juniors and seniors planning on bringing a CHS underclassman must complete a guest request form. . All students must have an ID to get into the dance.
SUMMER SCHOOL
ATTN: SENIOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS
The big day is coming on May 29th….Your senior will be graduating very soon!
There are several important dates for you to remember as follows:
1) JOSTENS – Caps & Gowns and Announcements: Jostens is our provider for caps and gowns, graduation announcements, senior rings and more. If you have not ordered, please do so at www.jostens.com or call 1-800-JOSTENS. The final online cutoff date is April 12, 2019. It is a requirement for your senior to wear a cap and gown unit to participate in the graduation ceremony.
Please mark your calendar for these key dates:
- April 5, 2019 - Jostens will be delivering Pre-Ordered Graduation Announcements & Accessories and also will be accepting Cap and Gown orders in the Courtyard during A & B lunch.
- April 12, 2019 - Final online Cap & Gown order deadline
- May 28, 2019 - Cap and gown delivery after 1st Practice in the Old Gym

2) Handicapped & Multi-Generational Seating – Reservations May 1st – May 15th
Starting May 1st we will be accepting reservations for handicapped and multi-generational seating for the graduation until May 15th. Seating is VERY limited so please make your reservations as soon as possible as it fills up quickly and may be full before May 15th. Also, to obtain access to the field for handicapped seating, you must have a field pass. Please contact Mrs. Baum for handicapped seating and Mrs. Claudio for multi-generational seating at 480-812-7700.
3) Handicapped Parking
Handicapped parking is VERY limited so be sure to arrive early. You must have a placard displayed to receive access to the handicapped parking. If you are unable to park in handicapped parking, we will have a shuttle service available.
4) Graduation Information Booklet
Just before Spring Break, a Graduation Information Booklet was mailed home. It includes all the important information you need to know about graduation, mandatory graduation practices, senior check out requirements and the commencement exercises. This booklet is also posted on the Chandler High School website.
