Welcome Spring??

This 1st official week of spring competition has been a little rough. In the lip-synced words of R&B duo Milli Vanilli - "Blame It On The Rain" ... or instead take some lyrics from rapper Vanilla Ice - "Too Cold, Too Cold" :). Either way, the weather has been a challenge. Still, American R&B band Kool and The Gang would still say "Celebrate Good Times, Come on" as both baseball & softball got their feet wet and played at least 1 of their scheduled games over the last 6 days, a senior signed on to compete at the NEXT LEVEL, and the Brickies recognized two FANTASTIC student athletes for their OUTSTANDING performances during the month of March!

The next phrase is music to my ears ... it's time for BricksCenter!

Baseball

Batter Up ... FINALLY!

After nearly a week of cancellations thanks to Mother Nature not being cooperative, the Brickies were able to open the 2022 season @ New Prairie High School on Friday afternoon! In Head Coach Trent Howard's debut, our boys POUNDED out 12 hits at the plate and shut down the Cougar offense to earn an exciting 6-1 VICTORY! Sophomores Thomas Martin (4-for-4, 2 runs) and Jevan Andrews (2 hits, 2 steals) led the onslaught for Hobart and junior Cam Gonzalez sealed the deal with a 2-run single in the 7th to close out the scoring. Freshman Aiden Leonard did not allow a run in 5 innings of work on the mound to secure the W!!

The Bricks are now 1-0 and ... weather permitting ... will be busy next week with games scheduled on Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday! DON'T STOP NOW BOYS!!

Softball

After postponing contests on Tuesday & Thursday, the Lady Brickies were able to get into the swing of things on Saturday over at LaPorte! In a back-and-forth game, the Lady Slicers took an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd ... Hobart took the lead with 2 runs in the 3rd ... LaPorte tied it up in the 5th ... and the 7th inning was just CRAZY! As the rain poured down, our girls plated 2 more runs to go ahead 4-2 ... but unfortunately, the hosts rallied for 3 of their own to edge the Lady Bricks 5-4. Sophomore Keirys Click doubled and stole two bases, freshman Emili Knestrict doubled, registered an RBI and they both scored in the 7th for Hobart.

Hobart is 0-1 and just like baseball, will be in action 4 times this upcoming week (weather permitting). WE ... WE BELIEVE ... WE BELIEVE THAT ... you know the rest.

Next Level

Roughly 7% of all high school student athletes go on to compete at the collegiate level. On Thursday afternoon, senior diver Autumn Turley joined the club! In front of a packed house in the upper deck of the Aquatic Center, Autumn signed her letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic career at the University of Southern Indiana! USI, located in Evansville, is moving to NCAA Division 1 status and will compete in the Ohio Valley Conference!

As a matter of fact, a number of Brickie student athletes have been joining the "NEXT LEVEL" club over the last few months! Here is a list of recent commits:

Football

Braydon Carlson - University of Indianapolis

Justin Sawyer - Trine University

Connor Bock - Trine University

Alex Pickett - Trine University

Jake Simpson - Trine University

Anthony Williams - North Park University

Basketball

Shout Out

The Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is a voluntary, not-for-profit organization that is self-supporting without the use of tax monies. Since its founding in 1903, the Association's mission has been to provide wholesome, educational athletics for the secondary schools of Indiana. Competitors are known as "student athletes", which means they not only compete on the playing field, but they also compete in the classroom.

The HHS Swimming & Diving teams have always represented the SCOH well in this regard; however, this past winter was EXCEPTIONAL! The Brickies put 12 ... that's right, A DOZEN ... student athletes on the NISCA (National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association) ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN TEAM!!

CONGRATULATIONS to seniors Brooke Blanchard, Bridget Chavez, Chelsea Chavez, Brennis Carrillo, Morgan Sanchez, Sydney Arias, Aisha Arias, Meghan Horn, Kaidin Click, Ethan Sy, Nathaniel Mamushe and Ethan Ferba!! INCREDIBLE WORK!!
