Denison Staff News
Week 5, Term 2
Next week...
Dearest Denison Staff,
I hope that this communication finds you well and that you've had a good week. Like I said on parade, whilst in Rockhampton on Thursday I saw Jorgen who was in my Community of Practice. Jorgen asked me to pass on his regards.
Of course, this week we have NAPLAN testing for children in Years 2 to 6 in addition to timetabled teaching and learning. The great work that staff have done from Prep to Year 6 in general teaching and learning and through our EIA foci have prepared students well for this diagnostic testing. As a school we will get the students off to a good start each day of the testing through the provision of breakfast club. We have also timetabled support for students during the testing where appropriate. When working with children during testing positively encourage them to do their very best in a calm and supportive manner.
Have a great week!
Why we support NAPLAN.
The real value and importance of NAPLAN is its use as another diagnostic tool to help us as educators improve a child’s learning.
The information the school receives details the strengths and weaknesses of a range of skills in the areas of Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation) and Numeracy.
This information allows us as educators to ensure a child’s strengths are sustained and extended. It also helps us to develop programs to help specific weaknesses a child may have. The skills assessed in NAPLAN are those being taught as part of the school curriculum. We also utilise some of the past NAPLAN questions in lessons so that children become comfortable doing the NAPLAN.
I PLAY IN THE CORRECT AREAS AT BREAK TIMES
- I wear a sun safe hat at all times when playing outside.
- I wait to be instructed before playing on the equipment and respect others personal space.
- I play fairly - invite others to join in, take turns and follow the rules of the game.
