2020-2021 THE WOODLANDS HIGH SCHOOL
SPRING FINAL EXAM EXEMPTION POLICY
All students, 9th through 12th, are eligible for final exam exemptions in the Spring Semester. Students must meet the criteria and the discipline requirement listed below.
Students must maintain an 85-100 class average for the semester (18-weeks)
Any student that has served SAC, DAEP, or OSS while enrolled in a course during the semester of the final exam is not eligible for a final exam exemption for that course.
- A student granted a final exam exemption must still attend that class during the final exam period in person or virtually. Students checking in remotely must log on during the synchronous exam time and submit the exemption assignment posted in the Canvas course for that class. If a student that does not attend in person does not complete the online exemption activity during the synchronous time, they will receive a zero (0) for the final exam and then must schedule a time to make up the exam.
To ensure that all students have the opportunity to complete their exams in a distraction-free environment, the attendance office will not be doing early checkouts for students on campus during exam periods. Parents and students should plan accordingly so that students remain in their exam period the entire duration of the exam period if coming in person (both mid-term and final exams).
AP TESTING:
AP TESTING: All AP exams administered at The Woodlands High School will be given during the 1st Administration and In Person. Only students with a qualifying COVID reason (Quarantined, Isolated, Covid Medical Exemption on file prior to April 23, 2021) will be considered for testing after May 17, 2021. Students should plan to arrive by 7:30am for a morning exam, 11:30am for a noon exam and 1:30pm for a 2pm exam. Please be sure to check emails from school messenger, as well as follow The Woodlands HS on Facebook and Instagram for updated information as we get closer to testing. You can also see the College Board website for all testing dates or check with AP teachers. If any questions, please contact Wendi Spears in grade level on the senior campus -- wspears@conroeisd.net

GPA Exemptions for the Classes of 2022 and 2023: The counselors are currently accepting GPA Exemption forms for all current sophomores and juniors for the next school year (2021-2022). The GPA exemption is in place to allow students to exempt up to two credits during their high school career. Some current juniors took advantage of the GPA exemption this year. If you would like to see further information about the GPA exempt courses, please refer to the Counselor Corner website for more information. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s counselor. The final day to turn in the GPA Exempt application form is Friday, May 21, 2021. Note: If your student wants to wait and see their final grades this semester, there will be another opportunity to enroll for GPA exemptions in the fall semester. Fall GPA Exempt forms will be accepted through the third week of school. The fall deadline is September 3, 2021. Reminder: Once this course is put in place and the student starts the course in the fall semester, the decision cannot be reversed.
Course Selections for 2021-2022: Counselors have been working diligently for the past several weeks on individual conferences for all current 9th, 10th and 11th grade students. Both campuses should be completed with all of their conferences by April 15. In addition, the final deadline for parents and students to make changes to their course selections for next year is Friday, April 30, 2022.
Dual Credit registration deadline is April 16 – this date is quickly approaching!
Course Verifications: Course verifications are currently available for viewing on either Student or Parent Access. Please look for the REQUESTS tab. Please note that counselors will not complete their Junior meetings and still may have meetings scheduled through Thursday April 15. If your Junior is not showing course selections, please wait to contact their counselor until after Thursday April 15. Important note regarding course selection changes: if your student would like to change a course request they MUST contact their counselor. At this point, changes can not be made on the 4 year plan tab. Deadline to request course request changes is Friday 4/20/2021.
Senior Class of 2021: We are getting close to the end of the year. Please make sure that your students are continuing to push themselves in all of their courses. Our counseling staff wants to make sure that our seniors stay on track to graduate in these final weeks. If you have any concerns about graduation and/or classes, please encourage your students to visit with their teachers and their counselors. We hope to see everyone at graduation on May 25, 2021!
Senior Honors/Awards information: Seniors Awards will be held on Monday May 10th at 7:30pm at Woodforest Stadium. Mrs. Villegas, TWHS College and Career Counselor, has emailed all of seniors and their parents with information on our Senior Awards Night as well as pertinent information regarding Honor/Military Cords. If you did not receive this email or would like further information please reach out to our College and Career secretary Mrs. Boetticher rboetticher@conroeisd.net
Summer School Registration: Summer school registration for students who wish to take an accelerated course (such as health) registration will begin on April 19th. For students who need credit recovery, counselors will begin the registration process the end of April, early May on our campus. However, many parents and students wait until after final exams to register for credit recovery. The final registration deadline for on campus registration is not until June 3, 2021.
Summer school will be at The Woodlands High School this summer. The link for the District Summer School website is: https://www.conroeisd.net/department/tl/summer-school/
Quick Reminder: If your child is able to average the first semester failing grade with the second semester passing grade together for an overall grade of 70 or higher, summer school may not be needed. However, if a student fails second semester, the two semester averages cannot be averaged together for credit recovery. All students have to pass the second semester in order to get second semester credit.
CLINIC NOTES:
If a copy of your student’s vaccine record is needed to submit to their college or university, you or your student may request it by calling or emailing the clinic at 936-709-1076 or aransley@conroeisd.net. Please be aware that we will not be available after May 27th. If your student has not had an additional dose of the MCV4 (meningitis) vaccine after their 16th birthday, it is required by most colleges and universities for them to be fully vaccinated. You may want to also discuss whether the additional Meningitis B vaccine is appropriate for your child.
If your student has been vaccinated against COVID, please send us a copy or screenshot of that vaccination record via email (Senior Campus - aransley@conreoisd.net, 9th Grade Campus - jffletcher@conroeisd.net), or ask your student to stop by the clinic and we can make a copy, so we can add it to their record. Currently, individuals who have been fully vaccinated do not need to quarantine after an exposure, if they remain symptom-free, you are able to submit proof, and it has been longer than two weeks since their final dose.
From Nurse Jan at TWHS 9th grade campus - If your student calls you and wants to go home, please tell them to come see me first, and we will call you. Some things are OK to go home for, but if it is a Covid symptom I have to have some information before they leave.

SEASON WRAP-UP -- This last week they were joined by the three McCullough Jr High Color Guard groups for an exhibition performance and WGI video recording session. The McCullough program is taught by both Mrs. Pajestka, and the TWHS Color Guard Director Ms. Robbins. It was a pleasure to view all 5 groups in a row and see the growth of the program. The Color Guard wants to thank their parents, family members and friends who have sacrificed and supported them throughout this year, allowing them to have a performance season with COVID restrictions. We would also like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank our creative, talented and hardworking Color Guard Director, Ms. Cyndi Robbins and our 4 graduating Seniors: Grace Crissman, AJ Hendrix, Lauren Maynard, and Ashton Jenkins, for their hard work and dedication to the program.
