Shared Inquiry Training with Great Books Programs
This training is designed to support K-9 educators in implementation of the Shared Inquiry method of teaching and learning that enable students to explore the ideas, meaning, and information found in everything they read.
In this hands-on interactive implementation course, experienced trainers model and teach the Shared Inquiry method and help educators learn:
- The importance of selecting complex texts
- What types of questions support each Shared Inquiry objective
- Close-reading activities
- How to lead a student-driven Shared Inquiry discussion
- How to assess student performance with our critical thinking rubric
- How to plan an effective implementation of shared inquiry
Students who learn Shared Inquiry:
- Use reading comprehension strategies purposefully
- Develop their own opinions and claims about a text
- Support ideas with textual evidence and weigh evidence for divergent ideas
- Go beyond initial responses to think more deeply about issues.
- Develop social and emotional intelligence through respectful dialogue and collaboration
