LHS Weekly Update #29
March 5, 2021
Happy Spring Break!
Thank you for a successful 3rd quarter!
We look forward to seeing everyone back for quarter 4 on Monday, March 15. Students may continue to choose in person or remote. If coming in person for the first time, students should stop at the front office when they start in person to complete an in-person contract. If you have questions about our in person mitigation plan, please contact Principal Carly Sween.
Quarter 4
Teachers will send out Google Class invites and Zoom/Google Meets links Monday morning, March 15, or before. Most student schedules will change somewhat for 4th quarter. In person students will get a paper copy of their schedule when they come to school that week.
SSP
For 4th quarter, students will be able to get .25 credit for attending SSP in person or remote. This is a pass/fail class based on 80% or more attendance. More details on this when we return from break.
Lathrop After the Bell After School Program
Our after school program will begin the week of March 22nd. This will include in person and remote opportunities for math and science tutoring, art, theatre, journalism, yearbook, chess club, English 10 credit recovery, and PE credit recovery. Look for more details in the next weekly update.
PEAKS Testing
Testing for 9th and 10 grade will take place in April. We will be adjusting our school schedule on April 6 and 7 for our in person students to test. Additional days and times will be scheduled for remote students to come to the building to test. There is no remote option for PEAKS testing. Information on PEAKS can be found through this link. More details will be shared when we return from break.

Alaska Teacher of the Year Nominations
This past year has truly showcased the ingenuity, compassion, and innovation teachers show every day for their students and communities. We want to honor and celebrate those teachers who go above and beyond, whose commitment to excellence inspires students and teachers alike, and who embody and exhibit the mission of providing an excellent education for every student, every day.
If you know such a teacher, please take a few moments to complete this brief Alaska Teacher of the Year nomination form. (Please note that Alaska Teacher of the Year nominees must have at least five years of classroom experience.)
Research shows that teachers who see the direct, positive impact they have on students’ lives stay in the profession longer — reaching even more students. Thank you for helping the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development recognize those on the front lines who are making a difference in the lives of Alaska's students.
The deadline for submitting nominations is March 15, 2021. Questions about the Alaska Teacher of the Year Program? Please contact us at deed.srs@alaska.gov.
