About the Workshop:
After first issuing 1:1 iPads, Chromebooks and laptops, many schools are now implementing BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) programs that provide more choice for educators and learners. Some are Going Google with Chromebooks and Google Apps for Education (GAFE). How do you support diverse learners on all devices, using free and low cost Apps & AT solutions? Join us for this hands-on informative workshop focusing on ensuring success for all learners using the tools, features and apps available in Apple’s App Store and Google’s Chrome Web Store. These free and low cost AT solutions support personalizing education for students, as well as engaging and including all students in a UDL environment.
You will learn about a number of built-in accessibility features, as well as a number of free and low cost apps, extensions, add-ons and web resources to support your students in accessing textbooks, learning materials (Handouts/Worksheets), research and study skills and completing assignments using technology. AT and app solutions to support students with learning disabilities (including Dyslexia), physical disabilities, low vision or blindness, and difficulties with executive functioning, literacy and math will be discussed and explored. You will have a powerful toolkit for fostering access and success across all platforms, devices, and subjects! Access to General & Special Education with Digital Tools, AT, Apps & Resources for all students will be discussed and explored hands-on with group and individual activities!
**Be sure to Bring your own laptop, Chromebook, iPad and/ or iPhone if you have one! It is recommended that you have at least one laptop or Chromebook (Mac or PC/ Windows laptop) as well as an iOS device if available (iPad/ iPhone) and we will have a few for exploring also.
Outcomes:
- Navigate the Chrome web store and download Chrome apps and extensions as well as Add-Ons to support diverse learners. Learn which devices these technologies can support students and educators.
- Discuss and explore various apps and extensions from Google and Apple to support diverse learners who struggle with executive function, literacy, math, sensory needs (visual impairment), and physical/ motor challenges.
- Identify and explore a minimum of 15 iOS (Apple-iPad/ iPhone) apps to support students who struggle with literacy, math and access to curriculum, and discuss realistic implementation methods for classwork and homework.
- Identify and explore a minimum of 10 Chrome apps & extensions to support students who struggle with literacy, math and access to curriculum, and discuss realistic implementation methods for classwork and homework.
- Identify and explore a minimum of ten free assistive technology tools (accessibility features, software, apps, built-in tools, web resources) to support access to literacy and curriculum, and discuss realistic implementation methods.
- Identify and explore technologies that support learning in a UDL environment and provide access to AEM (Accessible Educational Materials) including digital textbooks and worksheets.
Schedule:

8:30: Intro, get to know the participants, Discuss Agenda, Break Into groups based on experience (Intermingle novice with intermediate), Start with intro to Google Chrome and Web Store
9:30: Explore downloading apps and extensions from the Google Chrome Web Store- use them in groups to complete group activities assigned.
10:30: Break
10:45: Groups share about activities- Feedback, Demos, Discussion, Implementation Ideas and Strategies
