Rare Disease Day
Attention East!!! We are asking everyone to wear stripes on Monday, February 28th to celebrate RARE DISEASE DAY. The zebra is a symbol of rare disease, so let’s show our stripes to show support for those with rare diseases. A rare disease is any disease, disorder, illness or condition affecting fewer than 200,000 people in the U.S.A. 1 in 10 Americans have a rare disease, and more than half of those are children. RARE IS EVERYWHERE! Let’s show our support for being kind and accepting to EVERYONE. Let’s celebrate being RARE, DIFFERENT and UNIQUE! So don’t forget, show your stripes at school on Monday and celebrate our friends here at school that live with rare diseases!
MSE Library
Chess Tournament
The library is holding a chess tournament. If you are interested in participating, please complete the form on the library Google Classroom. Matches will be held on Fridays during 10th periods. You may only register yourself. Registration closes at midnight Sunday, February 24.
It is going to take a while to finalize this plan, and Mrs. Mento does not have a library clerk right now. Please be patient. Further information and updates will be on TV news and posted on the library Google Classroom.
Virtual Author Visit with Alan Gratz
The library hosted a virtual author visit with Alan Gratz, author of Prisoner B-3087, Ground Zero, Refugee, and Grenade. Gratz talked about what inspired him to write some of his books, explained his writing process, and described spending time in the library doing research before writing. The East group posted a question and Gratz answered it. He also talked about his upcoming book and Captain America graphic novel.
Over 20,000 items
So far this school year, the Boyertown East Library has checked out over 20,000 books, chess sets, craft kits, microscopes, and more! Our students love reading and everything that the library has to offer. Please encourage your students to care for the items they take out of the library. Books are being damaged because they are carried in backpacks all day long

Middle School Student Handbook
As we approach the closeout of the second trimester, I ask that you review and continue to be informed of the 21-22 Student Handbook particularly around ear buds, cell phone use, and lateness to class policies.
