Feathers From A Thousand Li Away

The parable "Feathers From A Thousand Li Away" is my favorite parable because it shows how the littliest things can contain the biggest meaning. When Tan says, "'This feather may look worthless, but it comes from afar and carries with it all my good intentions"'(Tan). The feather she keeps from the swan, even though it may seem like just a feather it represented her goal of learning perfect english.

The most interesting mother daughter if I did not read Woo would be Hsu. I would want to read it because i want to learn the story of why she married a man just because he made her. A women should be able to marry whoever she would like.

Stories showing relationships between mothers and daughters

My favorite quote in the Joy Luck Club was sad by Jing-mei saying this, "They are frightened. In me, they see their own daughters, just as ignorant, just as unmindful all the truths and hopes they have brought to America"(Tan40). This is my favorite quote because it shows that people are unaware and unappreciative of the things that mothers do for their children. Children should be appreciative of everything their mothers do for them no matter how big or small the thing might be.

In The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan presents the idea that one must make sacrifices in order for ones life to be changed forever . In "The Joy Luck Club" Suyuan Woo must leave her twin daughter behind in order for them to still live. One should always make sacrifices even if it isn't in the best interest for them. "...I can see these babies lying on the side of the road.."(Tan39). Suyuan makes this sacrifice just so she can insure the fact that her babies are going to live. It was a very high risk situation, but it paid off for her in the end.
