The Week Ending 8-24-18
Dear OSS Technology Campus Families,
The first 10 days of school have been fantastic! Thank you for everyone's help in making this possible!
Just a reminder that cars should not be arriving on campus earlier than five minutes before dismissal. Remember students may stay on campus without penalty until the end of dismissal; you have the time range from 2:48 to 4:00 P.M to pick up your student (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday) and from 1:48 to 3:00 P.M on Wednesday.
Be sure to mark your calendars for our upcoming Curriculum Nights on Monday, August 27th 2018 from 5:30-8:00PM for grades Kindergarten-5th and Wednesday, August 29th 2018 from 5:30-8:00PM for 6th grade. This is the best time to learn about your child's grade specific curriculum and learn about the many learning resources we offer. I hope to see all of you there!
The Friday before Labor Day across the United States, students, parents, family, fans and alumni display their team spirit on National College Colors Day. This day is celebrated annually by wearing your college team’s colors and college or university apparel. Students and staff are encouraged to participate.
Sincerely,
Michael Singleton
The Technology Campus is incredibly thankful for all of our faithful readers, and for that we would like to reward our families. Moving forward we will have a NEWSLETTER QUIZ located under the Principal's corner.
Quiz completion will automatically place your student into a drawing for a Dress Down Pass. Dress Down Passes will be awarded to 10% of entries for each building. The number of entries will directly effect the amount of prizes awarded for the week. Entries selected from the lottery must be correct upon review.
We hope that you have fun, and enjoy reading this week's edition! Entries are due by the end of day Monday, September 10th.

Kindergarten
This week in Ms Krygowski's Kindergarten class we learned about the them of "Being Respectful" We read stories that helped us comprehend how we need to work together in our class and help our friends if they are having a difficult time. We also learned about making predictions, inferring, and comparing and contrasting ideas from our stories.
We also continued learning about rules and procedures in our classroom and hallways. We are looking forward to starting our math units and learning about numbers, number word identification and using ten frames to help us count.
Here are some cool facts about being respectful:
- Respect promotes positivity.
- Respect always comes with understanding.
- Respect is another way of showing care for others.
- Respect promotes joy and happiness.
First Grade
In Ms. DiNuzzo’s class we learned more Whole Brain Teaching gestures and continued to practice our rules and procedures. Ask your child to show, and tell you about “Mirror/Mirror Words” and “Teach/Okay”. The students seem to really enjoy it! Our Super Improver wall is taking off as well. A few of us are about to become Penguins! Stay tuned for more…
Ms. Molnar’s class is working on what it means to be a responsible citizen while learning the difference between rules and laws.
Ms. Jones’s class continues to practice rules and procedures. We have also begun our first STEM unit! We are working on summarizing texts and identifying key details, as well. We are excited to continue learning and growing each week.
Ms. Kelly’s class has done an excellent job working together, sharing our ideas, and demonstrating what it means to be a classroom citizen. We have practiced our rules and procedures, and are excited about the challenges ahead!
Second Grade
Second graders had a great learning filled fun week! We continued to practice our procedures as we began our academic journey. We’ve all had an amazing time getting to know each other better as well as embarking on our wonderful year together.
In Mrs. Cybulski’s class, we used team building exercises to develop a more friendly classroom atmosphere. We continued to use our buddy up practice to learn about character education. We also practiced our creative and critical thinking through creating our self portraits as well as drawing what Empathy looks like. In addition, we learned about the holiday of Eid as our classmates shared with us their cultural diversity.
Please remember to sign up this year (it needs to be renewed annually) to be our chaperones as well as classroom volunteers at https://ocps.samaritan.com/custom/503/
In addition, please sign up for our curriculum night (8-27-18) at
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090d4dada82fa1fe3-curriculum2 where you will receive a lot more information about curriculum, grading, and homework policies.
All in all, we had so much fun learning, we can’t wait for another week!
Third Grade
Third graders have been learning about scientific inquiry and processes. Ms. Knight’s class did an experiment to find the best designed helicopter to land on a designated target.
Our first field trips are Sept. 13 (Knight, Ferguson, Hurley) and 14th (Anderson, SIlvares, Sokoloff) to Chocolate Kingdom. The $25 fee covers the bus, tour of how chocolate is made and hands on chocolate experiences. Money permission slips are due by August 31! If you plan to attend any field trips this year, please fill out the Additions form at https://ocps.samaritan.com/custom/503/. You will not be allowed in the classroom or on field trips without clearance through this system, so filling this form out now would be beneficial, as many of our trips are out of county and need an additional clearance.
Curriculum Night is August 27th from 5:30-8 p.m. This is the night for teachers to inform you about how things run in our classroom and about the curriculum we use. Third grade is a very important academic year, so please sign up if you are able to attend. The sign up is located here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090d4dada82fa1fe3-curriculum2.
Have a great weekend!
Fourth Grade
This week we have been learning about each other and discovering new information!
Mr. Press’ class is really starting to empathize with the plight of our main character’s family in Esperanza Rising. They are also wondering what is wrong with Mr. Press that he makes them read such a sad book. (It gets better, I promise) In Mrs. Juracich’s class, students discovered project-based learning and redesigned their classroom.
Mrs. Roberts class has really enjoyed reading a book called Frindle. As we read, we are learning that thinking outside of the box can sometimes be different or scary, but when you do, amazing things can happen! In Mrs. Colon’s class, we have begun reading Wonder and are contemplating what it means to be ordinary. We have also been learning good habits for success from The 7 Habits of Happy Kids such as “Work First, then Play.”
Commonality Tower from Last Week: 17.5 inches high
Fifth Grade
Sixth Grade
Mr. Lawrence's class spent the second week of school diving into the 6 Essential Elements of Geography. Students got to listen to Flocabulary videos explaining these elements as well as see educational videos. Students also began their note-taking regimen and learned some methods of note-taking, like the Cornell Note method. Overall, students seem excited and ready to learn about the world around them. Next week, they'll dive into map-reading skills!
