Principal's Message:
Ladies and gentleman, last week brings the 4th six weeks to a conclusion. Is it just me, or does this year seem like it is passing too quickly. This semester has provided opportunities for students across our campus to demonstrate their unique skills, talents, knowledge, and commitment to service. Our students are achieving some very prestigious recognition so please take a moment to celebrate all of their many accomplishments. Additionally, this Elk Call is full of important information regarding upcoming events, senior deadlines, and opportunities to raise money for some great programs that truly benefit our students. Although our students' accomplishments are too many to list, I would like to extend a congratulations to each and every one of them. Keep up your hard work and continue to be a model of what it means to be a Burleson Elk!!!!
GO ELKS!

From the Nurse
BHS Parents/Guardians:
Below is some information taken from our website regarding flu and when to stay home
due to illness. Attached is a sheet from the CDC on flu information and prevention.
Flu Information
You may be aware that the flu is spreading throughout our community and our schools are being impacted as well. The district has seen an increase in absences because of the flu.
Often, we get confused about the symptoms of the flu and how they are different from a common cold. Quick recognition of flu symptoms will help prevent the spread of illness. Please contact your physician if you or your child exhibits any of the following:
Common symptoms of the flu include:
- High fever
- Severe headache
- Muscle and body aches
- Exhaustion
- Dry cough
Common symptoms of a common cold include:
- Stuffy nose
- Sneezing
- Sore throat
- Hacking cough
Children often have additional flu symptoms that are rare in adults, such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
Should I keep my child home?
These helpful guidelines should be used to determine when your child should stay home from school due to illness:
- Fever of 100 degrees or higher in the past 24 hours- Your child needs to be free of fever for a full 24 hours without the help of fever reducing medications (such as Tylenol, Motrin or Fever-All) before sending them back to school.
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea in the past 24 hours
- - Itchy, red eyes with discharge
- Rash that has fluid or pus coming from it until treatment has been received, and a note from the doctor states that your child may return to school
- Ringworm of the scalp (until treatment has started)
- Head lice (may return after appropriate lice treatment) -Your school nurse will need to check your child’s head before he/she returns to class
- - We ask that you help us in encouraging your children to wash their hands often, use hand sanitizer, and cover their noses and mouths when they cough or sneeze. It is also helpful for your children to get plenty of sleep and to eat healthy foods-especially breakfast.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Nurse Brooke

A couple last questions you may have...
WHAT IS PROM AFTER DARK?
BHS Prom After Dark (Project Celebration) is the all-night drug and alcohol free lock-in held for BHS seniors and their dates after prom. We provide this event so that our kids can have a fun and safe way to spend their prom night, keeping them from indulging in dangerous and illegal activities as well as keeping them off of the roads and away from people who do not. Prom After Dark is entirely funded by donations and fundraisers; there is no senior dues or admission fee to the party to offset the costs.
WHY DOES THIS MATTER TO ME IF I DON'T HAVE A SENIOR?
If you have a student at BHS, we invite you to join us at our next meeting on Thursday February 7, at 7pm (location likely at BHS, but may be at my home). No matter what grade your student is in, you can jump in and get a handle on how PAD is put together, what we are preparing to do at our event, and the funds needed to do it all! Not only can we always use the help, but your child will be a senior one day, and having experience with this event will only help to make it a better one for your own child when the time comes!
If you have any questions about the talent show, silent auction, or Prom After Dark, please do not hesitate to contact us at promafterdark2019@gmail.com.
Thank you and we hope to see you at the Talent Show and Silent Auction!
Sincerely,
Sheila Borowski
President
