GPS Health Alerts - Opt-In
We have received feedback from so many of you and have decided to pivot with the way we report daily positive COVID cases. Some of you want this level of information and feel safer understanding the numbers, and some of you would like to opt out.
Beginning next Monday, instead of families receiving a daily email from their principals, we have created a new daily district report for those that wish to receive them. To subscribe, please go to our GPS Daily Health Alert page, click on the "Follow Greenwich Public Schools" box, and enter your email address to be automatically added to this specific distribution list. We will send a single email each Monday through Friday at the end of the school day.
CT DPH Voluntary Testing Update
The State has now expanded Project COVID DeteCT, an opt-in program to facilitate weekly COVID testing, to all students and staff regardless of vaccination status. If your child was previously enrolled and recently ineligible due to their vaccination status, you will need to enroll them again. Testing at GHS will begin the week of January 31 due to midterm schedules. If your child is already enrolled, testing will continue as planned. Staff must be enrolled in order to participate in this program. We can confirm that testing will start for all that have registered this upcoming week. Consent forms, available in both English and Spanish, are to be submitted electronically directly to the testing facilitators through their website.
Once enrolled, COVID DeteCT will let families know the timeframe for the testing.
If you choose to opt-in, we encourage you to sign up as soon as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, you may email Nurse Jessica Wieneke.
Updates on Magnet Virtual Meetings
GPS is proud to offer choice to the families of Greenwich that wish to apply to any of the District’s four elementary schools and one middle school magnet program.
Current fourth and fifth grade parents are invited to learn more about what makes Western Middle School a unique and viable magnet school option for their children by attending a virtual meeting on Thursday, January 27 at 9;00 AM and 7:00 PM.
Due to yesterday’s school closure, New Lebanon rescheduled its virtual open house to Monday, January 24 at 9:00 AM and 6:30 PM.
Vaccination Clinic
The Connecticut Department of Public Health and Griffin Hospital have set up a vaccination clinic for children ages 5-11 and 12+ at Hamilton Avenue School from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM on Sunday, January 23. First dose, second dose, and boosters will all be available. Please review, print, and fill out the pediatric intake form and pre-vaccination checklist. Griffin Hospital encourages individuals to have their ID and insurance with them.

COVID Q&A WITH NURSE NANCY AND MRS. MICHAELSON
Answer: Fully vaccinated means you are TWO weeks past your SECOND shot. If you are fully vaccinated (staff or student), you do NOT need to quarantine due to an exposure. ALSO - if you had Covid in the last 90 days, you do not need to quarantine due to an exposure.
Question: If you are fully vaccinated and you are exposed to Covid what happens?
Answer: You do not need to quarantine. You can come to school if you are symptom free. We recommend testing on Day 5 after an exposure regardless of your vaccination status.
Question: What happens if I test positive on a rapid test?
Answer: If you test positive on a rapid test (vaccinated OR unvaccinated), you quarantine for 5 days. You can return to school on Day 6 if you are symptom free. No additional covid test is required to return to school!
Question: What happens if I am unvaccinated and test positive for covid?
Answer: If you test positive on any test, you quarantine for 5 days. You can return to school on Day 6 if you are symptom free. No additional covid test is required to return to school! You also have 90 days of immunity - if you are exposed again in the next 90 days, you do not have to quarantine.
Question: What happens if I am positive on a rapid but negative on a PCR or negative on a rapid but positive on a PCR?
Answer: ANY positive is a positive. You must quarantine for 5 days after the positive test and then can return to school on Day 6 if you are symptom free.
Grades 5 to 6 Placement Process Information for Families!
Grade 6 students are placed into classes based on achievement, ability, and overall well-being. On Monday, January 3rd, and Tuesday, January 18th, the Academic Coordinator Team, Middle School Administrators, and School Counselors presented on the Middle School Transition Process. This informational meeting details social, emotional, and academic shifts at the middle level. Presenters also describe the differences in course offerings and support available.
