Are you Media Literate
MéLanie Bowers
Media, and Media Literate
The Media cannot even tell you what it is. In my opinion the media is what people see through their own eyes. What I see the Media as is a newspaper, article, T.V show, Talk show, internet, magazines, apps, radios etc. that tell you what they think the world should be and look like. The Media isn’t just people who are paid to write about other peoples and celebrities’ lives, it’s a mixture of our society’s opinions, which also includes our own. The media has a variety of things that they talk about, for example they will slander any celebrity that decides to wear mix matching socks just because they can. The media just wants a story, a scandal, anything they think the public will find interesting.
Most of our generation is Media Literate, just because our lives are surrounded by technology, and the generations after us will be more Media Literate because technology is becoming all we know. Generations before us, struggle using social networking sites, and understanding the media and what they write about mainly because they haven’t been surrounded by technology all of their lives. Social networking sites such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, E-Mails, Vine, Snapchat, and Tumblr have been in our lives for many of years because were the technology era. This gives us better leverage to being Media Literate. You are able to read, analyze, and evaluate the variety of media. The media can bring the world into your home, car, work, or phone. Wherever you are, you are able to connect to the rest of the world just because the media allows you too.
Word It Out
This is a mixture of what the media and media literate is in just 26 words.
Social Media
It is an all around the world thing. It happens everywhere around us and no where around us.
Are We?
All these social networking sites are social, but are the Media Literate. Just because its a social networking site, doesn't always mean it pretains to the media.
Heinz Ketchup “If you’re happy and you know it”
In the Heinz Ketchup commercial “If you’re happy and you know it” (2014) depicting that the use of ketchup on foods throughout our lives and different situations. Heinz ketchup supports their commercial by demonstrating people putting ketchup on their everyday foods from young to old, and from alone to gatherings with friends and family, and it is all tied together with a jingle being hummed. The companies purpose is to show there is some difficulty getting the thick ketchup out of the bottle, in order to get it out you tip the bottle upside down and while hummy “if you’re happy and you know it” tap the bottom of the bottle twice. The director writes in a humorous and family tone for the Super Bowl Audiences and for people all around the world who just want a little laugh.
Obesity in America needs to be stopped!

Where would you see a large fry that is 500 calories with over 300 mg of sodium? In the humble world of America, portions are bigger, calories are higher, and more salt than you can imagine. Whether you can get a small, medium, or large it’s still an excessive amount of calories and salt for consumption. Going to McDonalds for a salad is like going to a prostate for a hug. Mercia doesn’t work that way, the fatter the better apparently.
It is really easy to just stop by McDonalds’ to get a big mac with extra mac sauce, a large fry, large Dr. Pepper and a large chocolate covered strawberry frappe especially after a long hard day of sitting on your butt answering phones. In this day and age Americans have picked up the worst eating habits and don’t seem to have the motivation to change them until they get morbidly obese and can’t even see their feet.
Europeans have always eaten healthier than Americans. I had previously traveled to Europe, London and France to be specific. Their large portion at McDonalds is our medium. It was very upsetting when your used to getting bigger portions, then go to London and the cashier says “sorry were not fat like American’s this is our large”. Ask for extra salt and they will look at you upside down and sidewise. I actually lost a few pounds from walking around so much and not eating the portions I was used to eating.
There really is no way of helping America get smaller, tons have tried, succeed, then failed. Mainly because it’s what generations teach generations. If we just start out our generation with smaller portions, than that would be the only way. Shutting down McDonalds would start a Global issue because everyone loves their salty fatty food.
The only other way to stop obesity would to be arrest anyone who is consuming fatty foods in public and/or creeping on people in their homes. Citizen’s arrest!

Re-Write of History of killing of Osama Bin Laden
Have you ever wondered where the U.S gets all their insiders and hints on other countries and what is going on in the rest of the world. Who is coming to invade America next, or who wants take down the U.S next? On May 2, 2011 in Pakistan Osama Bin Laden, the head leader of al-Qaeda was supposedly killed by a Team of U.S. Navy Seals called Seal Team Six, although that is just a conspiracy that the government wanted us to believe. They want us to believe were all safe and that they want what is really best for the country. What they want us to think is that the “biggest” threat is out of our worries, but in actual reality the “biggest” threat is the government itself. The government has planted into everyone’s brains and souls that al-Qaeda was behind so many attacks toward the U.S. They have multiple planned attacks that were either stopped, or were not completed. One attack that did go through was the attack on the Twin Towers in New York City on September 11, 2001 and also destroyed The World Trade Center and the Pentagon. What the government has planted into our brains for 13 years is that al-Qaeda was responsible for the buildings collapsing and the thousands that were killed/injured. It was supposedly later revealed that al-Qaeda was responsible and the U.S could not locate Osama Bin Laden, but he could take the responsibility for his organization part taking.
George W. Bush knew about the conspiracy of the 9/11 but didn’t think that al-Qaeda was going to go through with their word; little did he know that they may have actually meant every word. No one actually knows if Bush had anything to do with it or if he was the one who planned it. You can never really know the whole truth when it comes to the government. Honestly I wouldn’t want to know the truth, it would be too much and I’d know 100% that my country is against everyone. When the government finally located Osama Bin Laden, they originally planned to assonate him. Although they realized killing Osama would just put another person in the lead of al-Qaeda; a person with different and more destructive ideas. America will never ever be safe, just because of the things they do. They upset other countries by thinking they are the best country. Their original plan was to assonated Osama and rid of the worst for once and for all, but at the last minute Seal Team Six decided to capture and take Osama Bin Laden to a place that is still unknown. They decided to use Osama Bin Laden as resources and an to come up with ideas for future jobs to other countries. Osama has now been under the Government watch for 3 years, and has been playing both sides in return for his life and security of his country. In order for the government to have gotten away with 9/11 and all the other attacks towards the U.S, they needed someone to blame. So now, with the thought of having Osama Bin Laden dead, but his organization still alive they have the creates of killing a mass killer, but still can cause destruction and not get the blame.
I re wrote the killing of Osama Bin Laden because I absolutely hate the government and how they think they can control us. How they can put anything into our brains and still be the hero’s in the end.
Let's watch this city burn
Let’s watch this city burn by Hollywood Undead already describes the book 1984 in the title. This song is telling us about how their world is falling apart, how they want to burn it to the ground. In 1984 one those thoughts are never even allowed to be thought of, and two if people were capable of thinking those thoughts, they would turn into actions. The party is obsessed with power and control. In the song they sing “And the villains who pillage, they are killing by the millions, and billions of people die for a lost cause” The villains are the party and they are literally killing every single one of their population single handling by just doing what they do best; Control. Oceania is constantly at war or with alliance with a country they were just at war with, the line “All my battles have been won, but the war has just begun”. They are constantly changing the object of war and making some things never have happened. The party “knows” they are doing what is best for London, but in reality they are just killing everyone every second, and before they are even born internally. This song is very aggressive; although the party doesn’t come off as aggressive they are still controlling and secretly aggressive. That’s why this is the best theme song possible for 1984 by George Orwell.
"City"
Let's watch it burn [2x]
Let's watch this city burn the world
[Chorus:]
Let's watch this city burn
From the skylines on top of the world
'Til there's nothing left of her
Let's watch this city burn the world
My body doused in ash with two empty cans of gas
The only evidence they have is a police sketch of my mask
And it's hard at times to ask if you can save my heart for last
And it's hard to face the facts when the darkness fades to black
It's not just make believe when they make me take a seat
And they put amphetamines in the air and make me breathe
So come on and grab your children, look out for burning buildings
And villains who pillage, they're killing by the millions
And billions of people die for a lost cause
So now I pray to my nation destroyed under god
(It's the end of the world)
All my battles have been won
But the war has just begun
[Chorus]
The city looks so pretty, do you wanna burn it with me?
'Til the skies bleeds ashes and the fucking skyline crashes
They catch us with matches to ignite the flame
And all the hopes of a youth deemed fucking insane
They say,
Take the pill
In god we trust
Go and kill
God loves us
As in life as in death
Breathing 'til there is no breath
I will not die in the night but in the light
Of the sun with the ashes of this world in my lungs
But who am I to say let's all just run away
Grab your saints and pray, we're gonna burn this world today.
(Say it's the end of the world)
As in heaven as on earth
We've been dead since our birth
[Chorus]
(Let's watch it burn) [x2]
The city looks so pretty,
Do you wanna burn it with me?
The city looks so pretty
Do you wanna burn it with me?
The city looks so pretty
Do you wanna burn it with me?
We use the trees as torches
Do you wanna burn it with me?
Fill the streets with corpses
Do you wanna burn it with me?
Watch the city fucking bleed
Do you wanna burn it with me?
Bring the world to its knees
Do you wanna burn it with me?
[Chorus x2]
Let's watch it burn
Let's watch it burn
Let's watch this city burn the world
Reflection on my Social Media Class
Reflecting back on the last semester in Social Media, I can honestly say that I hated it. Coach Zopf actually taught his class with dignity and didn't question if he was being too harsh or not. As much as I hate to admit it he is one of the best and worst teachers I've ever had. In most classrooms as Peachtree Ridge you’ll have favoritism, hatred, belittling, and fighting. None of that was allowed in Zopf’s class. The football players got the same treatment as nerd in the corner did. We were given assignments close to the level of college students. Well probably a lot easier, but it was not something a senior in high school expected to write their last semester before they graduated. Although I hated all the work, this class actually helped me grow. Explaining how much I learned in this Media Literacy class wouldn't go very well, it would be all over the place, but in a little summary I learned to grow the hell up. That complaining about little thing got me nowhere and to just take the consequences for my actions, and to actually show up to class. My teachers for my previous Language Arts classes really couldn't care for me and tried to pay little to no attention to me. I flew under their radar, to me at the time I thought “YES! No work!” but in reality it was yes! You’re failing. With that mindset I was only hurting myself; Zopf doesn't let his students have that mindset. He obviously isn't afraid of failing anyone; he wants you to learn more about life, than what happened to Miley Cyrus did last night. To learn about how social media can ruin your life from the second you press “Create Account”, and to watch what you put on there, it will come back to bite you later. Learning how the government watches our every move and there is still nothing we can do about it. Zopf you don’t need to change anything about your class, besides the fact that you need to listen more to your students when their talking to you because every time I tried talking to you, you’d walk away. Other than that nothing should change. Thank you Zopf for being an actually teacher and not taking it easy on me!
