Updates from our Principal
Good afternoon Firebird nation!!
This was another busy week across Falcon Middle School. Numerous activities and events from testing to athletics to performing arts. We have such an amazing group of students and staff.
First, all scheduled CMAS testing was completed Thursday! Great job to all our students and staff. Thank you to all our students for their focus and diligence during testing. Thank you to all of our staff for working together and supporting our students and other staff members during our testing window. Make up testing will continue into next week. A huge thank you to Ms. Clay and Ms. Kelly for their work organizing all testing at FMS. They both did an amazing job and we are very appreciative of their work.
Next Friday will be our Kona Ice incentive day. As mentioned every day during announcements, all students who demonstrated academic focus in ALL classes for the last 3 weeks as well as demonstrated strong behavior will receive a free Kona Ice during explore classes next Friday, April 28th . On Friday, all students, during their scheduled explore classes, will be allowed to participate in rec time. Students who did NOT have suspensions and truly worked hard in all classes will be given a raffle ticket to get their treat.
This week our after school theatre club began performances of “Charlotte’s Web”. This amazing group of students have worked diligently with Mr. Guerra and Ms. Van Hecke to rehearse and prepare. These performances are part of the ‘One book, One zone’ campaign. We partnered with the Falcon Zone elementary schools. Our cast traveled to some of the elementary schools today to perform excerpts of the play for students and staff. Evening performances began Thursday. The students did an amazing job. We have one more performance tonight at 6 pm. Come support the FMS after school theatre club.
Spring sports continue strong. Track, softball, and soccer all had games this past week.
Thursday, we made FMS history by hosting our first home soccer match! So excited to continue to grow the offerings at FMS. This coming Monday will be our first home track meet. Please keep in mind, all student spectators must be academically eligible to attend after school events. We love to have our students come out to support, but as with our athletes, academics come first. Keep striving to keep grades up to ensure you are able to participate.
Finally, 8th grade promotion is coming up! I can’t believe it is that time of year. Below all 8th grade families will find our promotion letter with a variety of details. We will also send this out separately to ensure it is received by all. We have a number of exciting events connected to promotion to celebrate our 8th grade students’ accomplishments. I am looking forward to a fun filled day on May 25th .
Have a great weekend to all,
Mrs. Elena Forehand
Principal

Ms. Packard teaches a class with students who have significant support needs (SSN). Every week, they review their class vision and class code to ground themselves in why their class is important and how they will treat each other at school. It's so awesome to see these students taking ownership of their classroom and agreeing to treat each other with respect and kindness. It's clear that reviewing their class vision and class code is routine for these students and that they value starting their day this way. Plus, Ms. Packard's students have choices for their preferred activity that they work towards each day when they follow their class code. Great work, students!

Firebird Nation Campus Expansion
We are entering our final month of official construction! The new wing should be complete by May 18th. We will wait until May 31st to take down the dividing wall between the existing building of Bennett Ranch and the newly constructed wing so that school is officially out and we can navigate that process safely. Additional classrooms are going through punch lists for items that need to be corrected. Excavation is taking place around the building to create the proper elevation of the landscape around the exterior. Sidewalks will be going in soon along with the new outdoor basketball court. Signage is being developed to distinguish the different branches of our Firebird Nation Campus appropriately. We can’t wait to show you the finished product soon!
